Tasks scheduling technique using league championship algorithm for makespan minimization in IaaS cloud

    Get PDF
Makespan minimization in tasks scheduling of infrastructure as a service (IaaS) cloud is an NP-hard problem. A number of techniques had been used in the past to optimize the makespan time of scheduled tasks in IaaS cloud, which is propotional to the execution cost billed to customers. In this paper, we proposed a League Championship Algorithm (LCA) based makespan time minimization scheduling technique in IaaS cloud. The LCA is a sports-inspired population based algorithmic framework for global optimization over a continuous search space. Three other existing algorithms that is, First Come First Served (FCFS), Last Job First (LJF) and Best Effort First (BEF) were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. All algorithms under consideration assumed to be non-preemptive. The results obtained shows that, the LCA scheduling technique perform moderately better than the other algorithms in minimizing the makespan time of scheduled tasks in IaaS cloud

Energy Aware Routing Protocol for Energy Constrained Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

Dynamic topology change and decentralized makes routing a challenging task in mobile ad hoc network. Energy efficient routing is the most challenging task in MANET due to limited energy of mobile nodes. Limited power of batteries typically use in MANET, and this is not easy to change or replace while running communication. Network disorder can occur for many factors but in middle of these factors deficiency of energy is the most significant one for causing broken links and early partition of the network. Evenly distribution of power between nodes could enhance the lifetime of the network, which leads to improving overall network transmission and minimizes the connection request. To discourse this issue, we propose an Energy Aware Routing Protocol (EARP) which considers node energy in route searching process and chooses nodes with higher energy levels. The EARP aim is to establish the shortest route from source to destination that contains energy efficient nodes. The performance of EARP is evaluated in terms of packet delivery ratio, network lifetime, end-to-end delay and throughput. Results of simulation done by using NS2 network simulator shows that EARP can achieve both high throughput and delivery ratio, whereas increase network lifetime and decreases end-to-end delay

Cloud computing has become an active area of research over the last decay to date. It is the collection of inter-networking of computers that are dynamically and seamlessly provisioned as resources based on end-user demand. Presently, researches in cloud computing are mainly based on its architectural framework, utilization of algorithms to manage its computational and storage resource provisioning to end-users, and the integration of cloud with fog computing as well as the Internet of Things. Despite the increasing rate of deploying cloud in various aspect of human endeavor (e.g. health, manufacturing, smart cities, and agriculture, etc.), little or no attention have been given to the Information Technological (IT) industrial firms that develop and deploy cloud data center platforms. Therefore, this research paper aims to investigate the aforementioned issue as part of its contribution to the systematic literature review. Hence, to support researchers who are determined to explore this research area. The main objective of this paper is to systematically identify and analyze the existing IT firms, capable of developing and deploying cloud data center platform to companies and Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) concerning their functionalities, capabilities in terms of the level of expertise and experience. The grounded theory research methodology is adopted to systematically actualize the research aim which is based on five steps namely the background information about cloud computing, collecting useful information from potential IT firm's websites and conducting a semi-structured interview on their personnel. Thereafter, the retrieved information is ordered using the triangulation technique to speed up the analysis phase. Also, current challenges as stated by some IT firm personnel are presented in this research paper and end with concluding remarks

A Survey of League Championship Algorithm: Prospects and Challenges

The League Championship Algorithm (LCA) is sport-inspired optimization algorithm that was introduced by Ali Husseinzadeh Kashan in the year 2009. It has since drawn enormous interest among the researchers because of its potential efficiency in solving many optimization problems and real-world applications. The LCA has also shown great potentials in solving non-deterministic polynomial time (NP-complete) problems. This survey presents a brief synopsis of the LCA literatures in peer-reviewed journals, conferences and book chapters. These research articles are then categorized according to indexing in the major academic databases (Web of Science, Scopus, IEEE Xplore and the Google Scholar). The analysis was also done to explore the prospects and the challenges of the algorithm and its acceptability among researchers. This systematic categorization can be used as a basis for future studies.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables, Indian Journal of Science and Technology, 201

Grid-based Search Technique for Massive Academic Publications

The numerical size of academic publications that are being published in recent years had grown rapidly. Accessing and searching massive academic publications that are distributed over several locations need large amount of computing resources to increase the system performance. Therefore, many grid-based search techniques were proposed to provide flexible methods for searching the distributed extensive data. This paper proposes search technique that is capable of searching the extensive publications by utilizing grid computing technology. The search technique is implemented as interconnected grid services to offer a mechanism to access different data locations. The experimental result shows that the grid-based search technique has enhanced the performance of the search.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, conference. An Overview of Distributed Energy-Efficient Topology Control for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
A wireless ad hoc network is composed of several tiny and inexpensive device such as wireless sensor networks (WSNs) which have limited energy. In this network energy, efficiency is one of the most crucial requirements. Data transmitting in minimum power level is one way of maximizing energy efficiency. Thus, transmission power level of nodes should be managed in a smart way to improve energy efficiency. Topology control is one of the main algorithms used in a wireless network to decrease transmission power level while preserving network connectivity. Topology control could improve energy efficiency by reasonably tuning the transmission power level while preserving network connectivity in order to increase network capacity and lifetime. In pursuit of energy efficiency and connectivity, nodes can be selfish and are conflicting with each other. Therefore to overcome the conflict, game theory is used to construct energy efficient topology, as well as minimizing energy consumption. In this paper, the main goal and most recent energy efficient topology control algorithms in WSNs and ad hoc network are classified and studied according to their specific goals

A Review on mobile SMS Spam filtering techniques

    Get PDF
Under short messaging service (SMS) spam is understood the unsolicited or undesired messages received on mobile phones. These SMS spams constitute a veritable nuisance to the mobile subscribers. This marketing practice also worries service providers in view of the fact that it upsets their clients or even causes them lose subscribers. By way of mitigating this practice, researchers have proposed several solutions for the detection and filtering of SMS spams. In this paper, we present a review of the currently available methods, challenges, and future research directions on spam detection techniques, filtering, and mitigation of mobile SMS spams. The existing research literature is critically reviewed and analyzed. The most popular techniques for SMS spam detection, filtering, and mitigation are compared, including the used data sets, their findings, and limitations, and the future research directions are discussed. This review is designed to assist expert researchers to identify open areas that need further improvement

A taxonomy of grid resource selection mechanism

    Get PDF
Resources in grid systems are heterogeneous, geographically distributed, belong to different administrative domains and apply different management policies. The roles of resource selection mechanisms are to identify, select and allocate the most suitable resources for a given set of tasks. This paper presents a taxonomy that facilitates identifying and classifying the mechanisms used in the implementation of grid resource selection process, as well as describing the most significant features of grid resource selection mechanisms. The benefit of this taxonomy is to highlight the main aspects of the selection mechanisms, which can help researchers and developers of grid resource management systems
