Low-dissipation data bus via coherent quantum dynamics

The transfer of information between two physical locations is an essential component of both classical and quantum computing. In quantum computing the transfer of information must be coherent to preserve quantum states and hence the quantum information. We establish a simple protocol for transferring one- and two-electron encoded logical qubits in quantum dot arrays. The theoretical energetic cost of this protocol is calculated - in particular, the cost of freezing and unfreezing tunneling between quantum dots. Our results are compared with the energetic cost of shuttling qubits in quantum dot arrays and transferring classical information using classical information buses. Only our protocol can manage constant dissipation for any chain length. This protocol could reduce the cooling requirements and constraints on scalable architectures for quantum dot quantum computers

Genetic Interaction of Centrosomin and Bazooka in Apical Domain Regulation in Drosophila Photoreceptor

Cell polarity genes including Crumbs (Crb) and Par complexes are essential for controlling photoreceptor morphogenesis. Among the Crb and Par complexes, Bazooka (Baz, Par-3 homolog) acts as a nodal component for other cell polarity proteins. Therefore, finding other genes interacting with Baz will help us to understand the cell polarity genes' role in photoreceptor morphogenesis. mutation on developing eyes to determine its role in photoreceptor morphogenesis. We found that Cnn is dispensable for retinal differentiation in eye imaginal discs during the larval stage. However, photoreceptors deficient in Cnn display dramatic morphogenesis defects including the mislocalization of Crumbs (Crb) and Bazooka (Baz) during mid-stage pupal eye development, suggesting that Cnn is specifically required for photoreceptor morphogenesis during pupal eye development. This role of Cnn in apical domain modulation was further supported by Cnn's gain-of-function phenotype. Cnn overexpression in photoreceptors caused the expansion of the apical Crb membrane domain, Baz and adherens junctions (AJs). photoreceptor

'Mind reading': hitting cognition by using ANNs to analyse fMRI data in a paradigm exempted from motor responses

    No full text
The main goal of the present study is to launch the foundations of a pipeline for fMRI-based human behavior classification, addressing however some particularities of cognitive processes. While studying cognition, much of the experiments with fMRI use devices to record subjects’ responses, which recruits the participation of the motor cortex. Although the influence of this aspect may be reduced in subtractive univariate analyses methods, it may negatively interfere in multivariate methods. The fMRI data here used is exempted of motor responses. Subjects were asked to form impressions about persons, objects, and brands, but their thoughts were not recorded by devices. The feedforward backpropagation artificial neural network was used. With this procedure it was possible to correctly classify above randomness. The analysis of the hidden nodes reveals the extensive participation of the fusiform gyri and lateral occipital cortex in this cognitive process, corroborating the critical participation of these structures during classification in the natural brain

Make It Happen: Marketing Processes for Competitive Market Positioning of Firms in Transitional Economy

This paper presents some of the marketing processes, i.e. activities that firms in transitional economy can follow in the process of competitive market positioning. The main objective is to demonstrate that the practice of certain business processes, such as market orientation, market research, written marketing plans as a base for future business operations are correlated with creation of market positioning statements and thus increase the focus on market positioning in regards to competitors. This in addition, results in positive effects on profitability. Data are gathered through questionnaires and follow-up interviews. The results show that the analyzed processes have a positive outcome for firms in regards to competitive positioning. The creation of market positioning statement is found to be positively correlated with profitability. However, many of the firms in a transitional economy are slow in adapting to market changes, and have a selective approach to marketing activities. The most striking result is the more proactive approach of small and medium-sized enterprises in implementation of some of the marketing activities, like formal marketing planning and market research than large firms.
