Trading Sex for College Tuition: How Sugar Daddy Dating Sites May Be Sugar Coating Prostitution

    Get PDF
Recently, the amount of outstanding student loan debt has skyrocketed, forcing young college students to seek nontraditional sources of financial support. Some of these individuals have turned to sugar daddy dating sites that specialize in pairing young, attractive sugar babies with older, wealthy sugar daddies in arrangements. An arrangement is distinct from a traditional relationship because sugar babies receive an allowance from their sugar daddies in exchange for sex and companionship. The media has declared that arrangements are merely prostitution in disguise and that sugar daddy dating sites facilitate prostitution online. This Comment analyzes the liability of sugar daddies and babies under the Model Penal Code\u27s definition of prostitution. Additionally, this Comment discusses sugar daddy dating sites\u27 potential liability for facilitating prostitution in view of the broad immunity offered to websites for user-content under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. This Comment concludes by positing that current civil and criminal laws are insufficient to ensure that prostitution is not taking place within sugar arrangements and suggests that law enforcement infiltrate sugar daddy dating sites to guard against online prostitution

Integration of creativity enhancement tools in medical device design process

    Get PDF
This paper aims at presenting the integration of different creativity enhancement tools, from C-K theory and TRIZ, in medical device design. After the description of the current development process, the paper focuses on the application of C-K mapping and TRIZ tools in a case study concerning the improvement of knee implants for total knee replacement - TKR - surgery. The analysis of this case study highlights that the synergy between TRIZ and C-K theory is possible. As a result, C-K theory represents a good way for structuring design reasoning mostly in the conceptual phases of product innovation and development and it may be also used to explore market information, while TRIZ is suitable for formulating and refining the design problem in a structured way

Trends in engineering education for additive manufacturing in the industry 4.0 era: a systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Additive manufacturing represents one of the most promising and innovative technologies of the moment. In fact, it is considered among the nine technological pillars on which Industry 4.0 is based. In particular, it has received a lot of interest from industries, educational institutions and government agencies. For these reasons, it is necessary to develop and train a specialised workforce and to prepare it for these new opportunities. This work aims to investigate, through the completion of a survey based on a systematic review of the literature, the current state of education and dissemination of educational practices related to the training of young engineers at university on the issues of additive manufacturing and related to Industry 4.0. The results show that the introduction of additive manufacturing education represents an important leverage in the preparation of young engineers who benefit from it both in terms of personal preparation and in terms of learning and refining different skills. However, certain aspects, linked to the need to have adequate equipment and a properly trained teaching staff, should not be overlooked

Application of Spectral Analysis to Detection of Space Charge Distribution in Solid Dielectrics

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the signal processing of ultrasonic pulses to obtain information on space charge distribution is solid dielectrics. The linear theory based on the Fourier transform is applied to the study of ultrasonic wave propagation along the measuring path. Application of spectral method simplifies a signal analysis and enables description of the pulse and step responses accurately. The compiled computer procedures, which include FFT computer programs permit direct processing of measured signals that are stored in memory of oscilloscope

Invariant measure for the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations in unbounded 2D domains

Building upon a recent work by two of the authors and J. Seidler on bw- Feller property for stochastic nonlinear beam and wave equations, we prove the existence of an invariant measure to stochastic 2-D Navier-Stokes (with multiplicative noise) equations in unbounded domains. This answers an open question left after the first author and Y. Li proved a corresponding result in the case of an additive noise
