Casimir Effect in the Rainbow Einstein's Universe
In the present paper we investigate the effects caused by the modification of
the dispersion relation obtained by solving the Klein-Gordon equation in the
closed Einstein's universe in the context of rainbow's gravity models. Thus, we
analyse how the quantum vacuum fluctuations of the scalar field are modified
when compared with the results obtained in the usual General Relativity
scenario. The regularization, and consequently the renormalization, of the
vacuum energy is performed adopting the Epstein-Hurwitz and Riemann's zeta
functions.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure. To appear in Europhysics Letter
[Phytosociological parameters of the arboreal stratum of 'Caatinga' areas in agrosilvopasture system]. Abstract: 'Caatinga' is exclusively Brazilian biome that occurs in the portion of the semiarid Northeast, this biome has a large number of plant species that has undergone various processes of degradation. In this context, the present study aimed to determine the potential conservation of tree species in the ?Caatinga? agrosilvopasture system, based on floristic and phytosociological composition. Phytosociological parameters were calculated from absolute density, relative density, absolute coverage, relative coverage and the Shannon & Wiener index, on the tree component of the agricultural, livestock and native vegetation of the system agrosilvopasture. The Fabaceae family was the most representative in number of species in all areas. The species Cordia oncocalyx Allemão showed the largest number of individuals in all systems, also presenting higher coverage. The sectors, livestock and agricultural had approximately the same wealth of species that the area of native vegetation. It was found that the management practices used in the system decreased density and area coverage of individuals in relation to the original vegetation ?Caatinga?. However, these practices were effective in preserving the richness of arboreal species, similar area of native vegetation reserves
Effective field theory analysis of the self-interacting chameleon
We analyse the phenomenology of a self-interacting scalar field in the
context of the chameleon scenario originally proposed by Khoury and Weltman. In
the absence of self-interactions, this type of scalar field can mediate long
range interactions and simultaneously evade constraints from violation of the
weak equivalence principle. By applying to such a scalar field the effective
field theory method proposed for Einstein gravity by Goldberger and Rothstein,
we give a thorough perturbative evaluation of the importance of non-derivative
self-interactions in determining the strength of the chameleon mediated force
in the case of orbital motion. The self-interactions are potentially dangerous
as they can change the long range behaviour of the field. Nevertheless, we show
that they do not lead to any dramatic phenomenological consequence with respect
to the linear case and solar system constraints are fulfilled.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures. Final version accepted for publication on
