Standard Closure Operations on Several Rings of Dimension One
There are numerous results regarding the cardinality of the set of star and semistar operations on a domain R. However the cardinality of the set of such operations has only just begun to be examined in the non-domain setting. Epstein has shown a correspondence between the set of finite-type semistar operations of a ring and the finite-type standard closures of a ring. I will classify the set of finite-type standard closures on several rings of dimension one
New cytotoxic benzo(b)thiophenilsulfonamide 1,1-dioxide derivatives inhibit a NADH oxidase located in plasma membranes of tumour cells
A series of benzo(b)thiophenesulfonamide 1,1-dioxide derivatives (BTS) have been designed and synthesized as candidate antineoplastic drugs. Several of these compounds have shown in vitro cytotoxic activity on leukaemic CCRF-CEM cells. The cytotoxic BTS, but not the inactive ones, were able to inhibit a tumour cell-specific NADH oxidase activity present in the membrane of CCRF-CEM cells. © 2001 Cancer Research Campaig
Recent hypotheses concerning the pathogenic mechanisms of Prions diseases
The abnormal maturation of a host coded protein is the fundamental cellular event of Prion diseases. Some authors regard this protein as the pathogenic agent itself, some other as part of a yet unknown nucleic acid protein association. Both the genetic and infectious etiology of this disease support a complex pathogenicity implying an interference with some basic regulatory sequences of the host cell
