    The three dimensional distribution of chromium and nickel alloy welding fumes.

    In the present study, the fumes generated from manual metal arc (MMA) and submerged metal arc (SMA) welding of low temperature service steel, and the chromium and nickel percentages in these fumes, were measured at various horizontal distances and vertical heights from the arc in order to obtain a three dimensional distribution. The MMA welding fume concentrations were significantly higher than the SMA welding fume concentrations. The highest fume concentration on the horizontal was shown in the fumes collected directly above the arc. The fume concentration vertically was highest at 50 cm height and reduced by half at 150 cm height. The fume concentration at 250 cm height was scarcely different from that at 150 cm height. The distribution of the chromium concentration vertically was analogous to the fume concentration, and a statistically significant difference in the chromium percentages was not found at the different heights. The nickel concentrations were not statistically significant within the welding processes, but the nickel percentages in the SMA welding fumes were statistically higher than in the MMA welding fumes. The highest nickel concentration on the horizontal was found in the fumes collected directly above the arc. The highest nickel concentration vertically showed in the fume samples collected at 50 cm height, but the greater the height the larger the nickel percentage in the fumes.</p

    The reading habit of the students was surveyed and compared with the \u2705 public-opinionsurvey. The 39% of the surveyed students did not read any book for last one month. Itshowed students were far away from reading. There were total 87.9% among the remaining61.0% who read a book. They had been staisfied with their reading and 67.9% of them hadbeen influenced on their view of life by reading. The 10.7% of the surveyed students boughtbooks by the internet and 27.6% hoped to buy books by the internet in the future. Thestudents who made use of the uniersity library were 22.5% for zero time, 20.7% for morethan six times, and the most frequency was 31.2% for once or twice

    At the present time the frequency of juvenile delinquency has reached a third peak in Japan. Lowteen delinquents have increased in number and a large number of juvenile criminal offences have been committed by junior high school children. Thirty five lowteens (from 14 to 15 years of age), who were committed to a Juvenile Classification Office (21 boys and 14 girls from 14 to 15 years of age), and the same number of control children, who were matched by sex age, were investigated by a Simplified Medical Inde-health Questionnaire for screening maladjusted children at Junior High School. The numbers of items in which the delinquency group showed higher rates of "yes" responses than the control group were 7 for boys and 10 for girls in physical symptoms, and 12 for boys and 7 for girls in mental symptoms. The delinquency group has kept a high state of anxiety and tension, and complained a large number of items on M section (maladjustment), O section (anxiety) , Q sction (anger), and R section (tension). Many complaints caused by disturbances of autonomic function were found in the female delinquency group. The delinquency group manifested many complains and remarkably large TYR (total yes responses). Regarding the distrubution of four types of "the extent of complains" i.e. emotional disturbances, type I and II were more frequent in the control group than in the delinquency group, and type III and IV were more frequent in the delinquency group than in the control group. The Simplified Medical Index-health Questionnaire is very useful to screen emotional disturbances of lowteens

    In order to carry out multielement determiation method of ten trace elements (Pb, Cd, Sn, Sb, Bi, Be,As, Se, Cr and Ge) in total diet samples by the polarized Zeeman atomic absorption spectrometry, the mostsuitable condition of ashing temprature, atomization temperature was dicided and effects of phosphoruselimination from total diet samples on copreecipitation were studied. The most suitable condition of ashing and atomization temperature was 500℃, 600℃, for Pb and Cd;600℃, 2200℃ for Sn, Sb and Bi ; 400℃, 2700℃ for Be, As and Se ; 800℃, 2800℃ for Cr and Ge,respetively. The most effective preconcentration of each element was the coprecipitation method with addinghydroxide zirconium as 10mg of zirconium at pH 9.5. The effects of the phosphorus elimination from total diet samples on recovery rates of trace elementswere compared among three preconcentration methods, which were non phosphoras elimination, hydroxidezirconium and ammonium molybdenic acid coprecipitation method. Recovery rates of Pb, Cd, Bi and Bewere no effects of phosphorus relimination. Recovery rates of Cr and Ge in hydrooxide zirconiumcoprecipitation method, and those of Sn, Sb, As, Se and Cr in ammonium molybdenic acid coprecipitationmethod clearly increased

    Targeting miR-223 in neutrophils enhances the clearance of Staphylococcus aureus in infected wounds

    Abstract Argonaute 2 bound mature microRNA (Ago2‐miRNA) complexes are key regulators of the wound inflammatory response and function in the translational processing of target mRNAs. In this study, we identified four wound inflammation‐related Ago2‐miRNAs (miR‐139‐5p, miR‐142‐3p, miR‐142‐5p, and miR‐223) and show that miR‐223 is critical for infection control. miR‐223Y/− mice exhibited delayed sterile healing with prolonged neutrophil activation and interleukin‐6 expression, and markedly improved repair of Staphylococcus aureus‐infected wounds. We also showed that the expression of miR‐223 was regulated by CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha in human neutrophils after exposure to S. aureus peptides. Treatment with miR‐223Y/−‐derived neutrophils, or miR‐223 antisense oligodeoxynucleotides in S. aureus‐infected wild‐type wounds markedly improved the healing of these otherwise chronic, slow healing wounds. This study reveals how miR‐223 regulates the bactericidal capacity of neutrophils at wound sites and indicates that targeting miR‐223 might be of therapeutic benefit for infected wounds in the clinic
