    Infrastructure megaprojects as enablers of digital innovation transitions

    Innovation refers to the development of a new product, service or process (Abernathy and Clark, 1985). Novelty and innovations are often observed in projects (Shenhar and Dvir, 2007). Innovations are highly context-dependent and rely on good projects (Shenhar and Dvir, 2007). Infrastructure megaprojects have a particularly close relationship with innovation (Davies et al., 2009). This relation between innovation and its context, such as infrastructure megaprojects. is important for understanding innovation. Digital innovation is differentiated from other innovations as it is highly pervasive and systemic (Egyedi and Sherif, 2008). This chapter increases our understanding of digital innovation and its relation to institutional contexts, especially infrastructure megaprojects. Focusing on the relation between digital innovation and infrastructure megaprojects, such as London Heathrow and Crossrail (Davies et al., 2009; Dodgson et al., 2015), shows how these infrastructure megaprojects influenced institutions through standardisation to promote digital innovation

    Microlensing of the Lensed Quasar SDSS0924+0219

    We analyze V, I and H band HST images and two seasons of R-band monitoring data for the gravitationally lensed quasar SDSS0924+0219. We clearly see that image D is a point-source image of the quasar at the center of its host galaxy. We can easily track the host galaxy of the quasar close to image D because microlensing has provided a natural coronograph that suppresses the flux of the quasar image by roughly an order of magnitude. We observe low amplitude, uncorrelated variability between the four quasar images due to microlensing, but no correlated variations that could be used to measure a time delay. Monte Carlo models of the microlensing variability provide estimates of the mean stellar mass in the lens galaxy (0.02 Msun < M < 1.0 Msun), the accretion disk size (the disk temperature is 5 x 10^4 K at 3.0 x 10^14 cm < rs < 1.4 x 10^15 cm), and the black hole mass (2.0 x 10^7 Msun < MBH \eta_{0.1}^{-1/2} (L/LE)^{1/2} < 3.3 x 10^8 Msun), all at 68% confidence. The black hole mass estimate based on microlensing is consistent with an estimate of MBH = 7.3 +- 2.4 x 10^7 Msun from the MgII emission line width. If we extrapolate the best-fitting light curve models into the future, we expect the the flux of images A and B to remain relatively stable and images C and D to brighten. In particular, we estimate that image D has a roughly 12% probability of brightening by a factor of two during the next year and a 45% probability of brightening by an order of magnitude over the next decade.Comment: v.2 incorporates referee's comments and corrects two errors in the original manuscript. 28 pages, 10 figures, published in Ap

    The needs to be served, the subsectors in which the system might be used, the technology employed, and the prospects for future utilization of an educational telecommunications delivery system are described and analyzed. Educational subsectors are analyzed with emphasis on the current status and trends within each subsector. Issues which affect future development, and prospects for future use of media, technology, and large-scale electronic delivery within each subsector are included. Information on technology utilization is presented. Educational telecommunications services are identified and grouped into categories: public television and radio, instructional television, computer aided instruction, computer resource sharing, and information resource sharing. Technology based services, their current utilization, and factors which affect future development are stressed. The role of communications satellites in providing these services is discussed. Efforts to analyze and estimate future utilization of large-scale educational telecommunications are summarized. Factors which affect future utilization are identified. Conclusions are presented

    Background: Continual support for the birthing person during labor improves delivery outcomes and overall childbirth experiences. How many support people are present and their relation to the birthing person varies based on individual preference, family dynamics, and sociocultural expectations. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many hospitals implemented a one-visitor policy for deliveries. With these new guidelines in place, the length of hospital stays significantly decreased, and there were a variety of opinions towards these restrictions. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore birthing persons’ overall sentiment towards visitors in the immediate postpartum period. Methods: The current study analyzed comments from a photo-based social media post. The original post, which received 94,198 likes and 1557 comments, said, “Can we normalize giving mothers time to rest and recuperate after giving birth and allowing them time to bond with their baby? People are so eager to see a new baby that they forget about the mother and what she has just been through-mentally and physically.” A codebook was developed to assess the overall sentiment of visitation policies enforced during the Covid-19 pandemic. Each comment was independently coded by two coders; kappa values ranged from 0.97-1. Frequencies of codes were reported. Results: Of those who mentioned Covid-19 (n= 114), 99% of the commentors were in favor of the visitor restrictions. The overall sentiment towards the post was divided into neutral (14.8%), agree (74.95%), disagree (7.7%), and normalize the birthing person communicating their boundaries (1.3%). Discussion: Public opinion can influence policy and practice. Based on the overall sentiment of the commentors, there was an overwhelming agreeance proving the need for further research to be conducted to distinguish the importance of support roles in the delivery versus postpartum periods
