CayleyNets: Graph Convolutional Neural Networks with Complex Rational Spectral Filters

The rise of graph-structured data such as social networks, regulatory networks, citation graphs, and functional brain networks, in combination with resounding success of deep learning in various applications, has brought the interest in generalizing deep learning models to non-Euclidean domains. In this paper, we introduce a new spectral domain convolutional architecture for deep learning on graphs. The core ingredient of our model is a new class of parametric rational complex functions (Cayley polynomials) allowing to efficiently compute spectral filters on graphs that specialize on frequency bands of interest. Our model generates rich spectral filters that are localized in space, scales linearly with the size of the input data for sparsely-connected graphs, and can handle different constructions of Laplacian operators. Extensive experimental results show the superior performance of our approach, in comparison to other spectral domain convolutional architectures, on spectral image classification, community detection, vertex classification and matrix completion tasks

    Network Slicing

Network slicing is emerging as a key enabling technology to support new service needs, business cases, and the evolution of programmable networking. As an end-to-end concept involving network functions in different domains and administrations, network slicing calls for new standardization efforts, design methodologies, and deployment strategies. This chapter aims at addressing the main aspects of network slicing with relevant challenges and practical solutions

DialettiBot: a Telegram Bot for Crowdsourcing Recordings of Italian Dialects

    Get PDF
In this paper we describe DialettiBot, a Telegram based chatbot for crowdsourcing geo-referenced voice recordings of Italian dialects. The system enables people to listen to previously recorded audio and encourages them to contribute to building a collective linguistic resource by sending voice recordings of their own spoken dialects. The project aims at collecting a large sample of voice recordings in order to promote knowledge of linguistic variation and preserve proverbs or idioms typical for different local dialects. Moreover, the collected data can contribute to several voice-based Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications in helping them understand utterances in non-standard Italian.

Treatment with lipid therapy to resuscitate a patient suffering from toxicity due to local anesthetics

Recently, although without a universal recognition, the use of lipid emulsions as a rescue therapy for the bupivacaine cardiac toxicity has been proposed. In this article we report a successful resuscitation of a patient after the injection of bupivacaine in emergency room and a commented review of the related literature. The patient is a 73 years old man that, after a subcutaneous injection of bupivacaine (0.5%, i.e. 0.5 mL/h), developed circulatory arrest. After the failure of the initial treatment based on the advanced life support protocol, we have successfully performed a therapy with lipid emulsion. The bupivacaine intravascular injection, together with its interaction with amitriptyline and carbamazepine, could lead to cardiac depression, severe arrhythmias, hypotension, and/or cardiac arrest. In the case of failure of traditional life support treatment, intravenous lipid emulsion proves to be the best therapy to treat bupivacaine systemic toxicity

Identifying Multi-Word Expressions from Parallel Corpora with Kernel Methods and Crowdsourcing

We propose a new methodology for the identification of MWEs from parallel multilingual corpora. Our approach is inspired by one of the most significant properties that characterize the majority of MWEs, which goes under the name of non-translatability: an MWE cannot be translated from one language to another on a word by word basis (Sag et al., 2002; Monti, 2012). The methodology envisions a three-stage process. The first phase makes use of automatic kernel methods for the identification of possible candidate pairs of expressions which has high recall and low precision. In the second phase, a "word by word" automatic translation system will filter out those candidate pairs which are literal translations (and therefore not MWEs). In the third phase, a crowdsourcing system is used to further validate the list of final candidate
