Porto Oscillation Code (POSC)

The Porto Oscillation Code (POSC) has been developed in 1995 and improved over the years, with the main goal of calculating linear adiabatic oscillations for models of solar-type stars. It has also been used to estimate the frequencies and eigenfunctions of stars from the pre-main sequence up to the sub-giant phase, having a mass between 0.8 and 4 solar masses. The code solves the linearised perturbation equations of adiabatic pulsations for an equilibrium model using a second order numerical integration method. The possibility of using Richardson extrapolation is implemented. Several options for the surface boundary condition can be used. In this work we briefly review the key ingredients of the calculations, namely the equations, the numerical scheme and the output.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astrophysics and Space Science

Representation of Nelson Algebras by Rough Sets Determined by Quasiorders

In this paper, we show that every quasiorder $R$ induces a Nelson algebra $\mathbb{RS}$ such that the underlying rough set lattice $RS$ is algebraic. We note that $\mathbb{RS}$ is a three-valued {\L}ukasiewicz algebra if and only if $R$ is an equivalence. Our main result says that if $\mathbb{A}$ is a Nelson algebra defined on an algebraic lattice, then there exists a set $U$ and a quasiorder $R$ on $U$ such that $\mathbb{A} \cong \mathbb{RS}$.Comment: 16 page

Estado Confusional Agudo após Corticoterapia Inalada

Background: The connection between corticotherapy and neuropsychiatric symptoms is widely known, being one of the first questions we need to assess when presenting with first episode psychiatric symptoms or confusional state. Aims: To date, data on cases related to inhaled corticotherapy and neuropsychiatric effects is scarce. In this paper we describe a rare case in a young woman. Methods: The clinical case presented led us to try to understand the data published on the subject in order to discuss it in greater length. Results and Conclusions: We present and discuss a 27-year-old patient’s case, with no previous psychiatric disease, who was admitted to our Psychiatric ward after the onset of severe acute behavioural disturbance characterized by aggressiveness, visual and auditory hallucinatory activity, misidentification and altered conscience status. It was later found that seven days earlier she had been prescribed inhaled corticotherapy for a minor respiratory infection. A few days after corticotherapy withdrawal, the clinical symptoms improved significantly.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Estresse ambiental: considerações econômicas.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo, mais do que apontar impactos economicos, levantar pontos para reflexao. Aborda, em termos qualitativos, impactos economicos e sociais a partir de dois angulos, tendo como centro de origem o estresse ambiental. O primeiro angulo considera as consequencias das existencia de restricoes no ambiente a producao agropecuaria. O segundo angulo fala dos efeitos decorrentes da politica de modernizacao que tem por objetivo a superacao das restricoes, tendo como cenario o modelo de desenvolvimento agricola. Ensaia algumas timidas quantificacoes para mostrar essa realidade e, ao mesmo tempo, revelar dificuldades metodologicas e de quantificacao real de tais impactos. Nesse aspectos, a avaliacao economico-social apresenta serias dificuldades tambem pela falta de pesquisa e informacao que possam suportar hipoteses sobre as consequencias dos impactos analisados. Procura, a partir de dados da realidade brasileira, analisar as perspectivas da producao agricola em um contexto de agricultura sustentavel. A analise se aventura as pre-condicoes necessarias para sucesso nessa area e os caminhos por que deve passar a sua efetiva implantacao. Finalmente, em uma analise mais agregada, incorporando uma abordagem relativa de grupos de interesse na economia, aliada a nova abordagem do "negocio agricola" (agribusiness), que vem tomando corpo nos meios cientificos ligados a agricultura brasileira, se procura visualizar as dificuldades associadas a uma mudanca de postura da ciencia e da (...
