    Crossed-Brain Representation of Verbal and Nonverbal Functions

    A74-year-old, left-handedman presentedwith a rapidly evolving loss of strength in his right leg associated with difficulty in walking. MR images disclosed an extensive left hemisphere tumor. A neuropsychological examination revealed that language was broadly normal but that the patient presented with severe nonlinguistic abnormalities, including hemineglect (both somatic and spatial), constructional defects, and general spatial disturbances; symptoms were usually associated with right hemisphere pathologies. No ideomotor apraxia was found. The implications of crossed-brain representations of verbal and nonverbal functions are analyzed

    Evaluaci贸n diagn贸stica de la experiencia y expresi贸n de la ira en j贸venes universitarios, una aproximaci贸n para la prevenci贸n de conductas de riesgo

     According to Spielberg (1988), anger is defined as a basic emotion which occurs at a particular moment before aggression or hostility. State anger is characterized by subjective feelings that vary in intensity, from mild irritation or annoyance to intense fury and rage. On the other hand, trait anger is defined as a willingness to perceive a wide range of situations as annoying or frustrating and to experience increased state anger. The experience of anger has been related to different health problems (Averill 1983, Mytton et al. 2002), personality disorders (DiGiussepe et al. 2012), suicide risk (Hawkins et al. 2014), and others. The purpose of this study was to conduct a diagnostic assessment of the experience and expression of anger in young university students, as a first step toward future actions promoting proper regulation and anger management. For this purpose, an ex post facto cross-sectional study was carried out in a university student population by using the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-2) (Miguel-Tobal et al. 2009). Appropriate anger management is considered a psychological resource; considering this and the results obtained, it is possible that the difficulty in expressing and properly perceiving the experience of anger may predominate in the population assessed. This suggests that these individuals show a tendency towards inhibition and the display of avoidance or denial mechanisms, which can be considered a risk factor for the development of health problems. De acuerdo con Spielberg (1988), la ira es definida como una emoci贸n b谩sica, que ocurre en un momento particular antes de la agresi贸n o la hostilidad, as铆 mismo el de estado de ira, se caracteriza por sentimientos subjetivos que var铆an en intensidad, desde una leve irritaci贸n o molestia hasta una intensa furia y rabia. Por otra parte, la ira como rasgo, se define como una disposici贸n a percibir una amplia gama de situaciones como molestas o frustrantes y experimentar aumento en el estado de ira. La experiencia de la emoci贸n de ira se ha relacionado con diversas problem谩ticas en materia de salud (Averill, 1983; Mytton et al., 2002), trastornos de la personalidad (DiGiussepe et al., 2012), riesgo suicida (Hawkins et al., 2014), entre otros. El prop贸sito del presente estudio fue llevar a cabo una evaluaci贸n diagn贸stica de la experiencia y expresi贸n de la ira en j贸venes universitarios, como una aproximaci贸n a futuras acciones de promoci贸n de una adecuada regulaci贸n y manejo de la ira. Para ello se realiz贸 una investigaci贸n de tipo ex post facto de corte transversal en una poblaci贸n universitaria empleando el Inventario de Expresi贸n de Ira Estado-Rasgo (STAXI-2) (Miguel-Tobal et al., 2009). Manejar de manera adecuada la ira es considerado un recurso psicol贸gico, tomando en cuenta esto y a partir de los resultados obtenidos, es posible que en la poblaci贸n evaluada predomine la dificultad al expresar y percibir la experiencia de ira de manera adecuada, lo que indica que presentan una tendencia hacia la inhibici贸n, poniendo en pr谩ctica mecanismos evitativos o de negaci贸n, que puede ser considerado un riesgo para el desarrollo de problemas de salud

    The present study proposes to characterize the relationship between upbringing styles and ADHD related behaviors. This involved the participation of 46 parents of children belonging to the elementary school Juan A. Mateos, who were asked to respond to the Adaptation of the Parenting Questionnaire, and the survey of diagnostic criteria for Attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity. We performed an X2 test of the data obtained for the variables of upbringing style and suspected ADHD referred by adults (parents and teachers), suggesting a relationship between authoritarian parenting style and non-suspected ADHD by parents, also showing according to the appreciation of teachers a relationship between permissive parenting style and suspected ADHD.El presente estudio propone caracterizar la relaci贸n entre los estilo de crianza de padres y las conductas relacionadas con TDAH. Para ello se requiri贸 la participaci贸n de 46 padres de los ni帽os pertenecientes a la escuela primaria Juan A. Mateos, a los cuales se les solicit贸 contestaran la Adaptaci贸n del Cuestionario de Crianza Parental (PCRI-M), y la encuesta de criterios de diagn贸stico de trastorno por d茅ficit de atenci贸n e hiperactividad.Se realiz贸 un an谩lisis X2 de los datos obteniendo para las variables de estilo de crianza y sospecha de TDAH referida por los adultos (padres y profesores), sugiriendo una relaci贸n entre el estilo de crianza autoritario y la no sospecha de TDAH por parte de padres, mostr谩ndose tambi茅n seg煤n la apreciaci贸n de los profesores una relaci贸n entre el estilo de crianza permisivo y la sospecha de TDAH
