    Get PDF
As Malaysian Muslim consumers are more concerned about religious teachings, the doubt about the halalalness of the ingredients, processing and handling of the products has attracted Muslim consumers’ attention.Recently, Muslims are not only concerned about halal but the issue of “halalal tayibbah” has obtained great attention. In order to verify the “halalal tayibbah” concept, the acceptance of Muslim-made products is increasing in the market. With the spirit of helping the economy of the ummah, Muslim consumers tend to give their support to Muslim products. With a high demand for Muslim products, an initiative to introduce an Islamic-focused retail store has shown significant growth. Essentially, the store will provide a range of Muslim products as a substitute for previous brands. With regard to this phenomenon, the present study investigates the effect of Muslim products in an Islamic retail store on Muslim consumer-patronage behaviour. In order to get feedback, self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 384 patrons of Islamic retail stores in the northern region of Malaysia. The result of the partial least square analysis concluded that the provision of Muslim products has a significant impact on the patronage-behaviour of Muslim consumers.By buying Muslim products, Muslim consumers feel more confident that they are buying products that are religiously allowable and it prompts Muslim consumers’ buying-decisions in patronizing a store

    Get PDF
Plant physiological performance and yield of starfruit at several crop loads under netted structure were studied in the starfruit farm at MARDI, Serdang, Selangor. The crop load consisted of three treatments ranging from less than 100 to about 600 fruits per tree. Crop load significantly influenced the specific leaf weigh (SLW). The SLW from plants with the lowest crop load were significantly higher than the medium and high crop load. The rate of stomatal conductance and transpiration of mature leaf was significantly affected by the crop load treatments. The stomatal conductance of the high crop load (244.8 mmol m-2s-1) and medium crop load (258.2 mmol m-2s-1) were significantly higher at p <0.05 compared to the low crop load (133.0 mmol m-2s-1). At the same time, leaves at the lowest crop load had the lowest transpiration rate of 2.3 mmol m-2s-1 compared to 4.4 and 4.3 mmol m-2 s-1 at the medium and highest crop load respectively and the difference was significant at p <0.05. The yield increased significantly (p <0.05) with increase in crop load from 6.3 t/ha at the lowest crop load to 22 t/ha at the highest

Introduction: Doctors are exposed to various psychosocial hazards such as high task demands and demanding work schedule which may influence fatigue, recovery, stress, job satisfaction, wellbeing, and work-family interface. This research generally aims to examine the interrelationship between work-home domain variables with outcomes of fatigue, its recovery, and others related outcomes such as work-to-family conflict, general wellbeing, and perceived stress level among doctors working at public hospital at general and day-level on-call duty. Methods: This is a multicenter analytical mix cross sectional (general) and longitudinal (day-level) research among proposed 390 randomly-sampled on-call doctors working at seven core clinical disciplines from seven public tertiary hospitals in Malaysia. Data will be collected three times: (a) any days after obtaining informed consent (cross sectional), (b) at the end of on-call duty (first wave longitudinal), and (c) at the beginning of subsequent work period (second wave longitudinal). Data will be modelled by covariance-based structural equation modelling (SEM). Conclusion: This research is well justifiable in view of limited available research on complex interrelationship of work domain, home domain and work-home boundary control with fatigue, recovery and other psychological health consequences (e.g. stress, wellbeing, work-home conflict) among doctors, particularly in Asia and developed countries, including Malaysia. This research is expected to provide strong evidence to policy makers in developing prevention and management policy related to fatigue, recovery and other psychological health consequences among doctors. Keywords: doctor, fatigue, recovery, on-call, intershift, wellbeing, stress

Current research in Islamic marketing realized that, common attributes used in previous research cannot be generalized to Muslim consumers because they have their special motivation and interest. In order to patronage a store, they will search for “muslim specific attributes”.Therefore, in this paper, retails store attributes from Islamic perceptive are developed to fulfil the requirement of Muslim consumers. From literature study, five main dimensions are considered that include Muslim product, Islamic atmosphere, humanistic, halal product and Islamic values. Mall intercept approach is used to collect Muslim consumers’ feedback towards the selected Islamic store.By using reliability and exploratory factor analysis, this study revealed that 45 attributes of Islamic store can be implemented in understanding Muslim consumers’ perceptions

The current cut-off value for thalassaemia screening is based on a mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) level of less than 27 pg. Samples with MCH 27 pg are considered normal. However, there is a possibility of missing some types of haemoglobinopathy such as haemoglobin (Hb) E trait, by using this cut-off value. This study aimed to evaluate the dichloroindophenol (DCIP) test for Hb E carriers within healthy individuals. Methods: In total, 200 leftover blood samples with normal full blood count (FBC) results and MCH ≥ 27 pg were collected from students who were involved in the thalassaemia screening program. Blood samples were screened for Hb E by the DCIP test and subjected to haemoglobin analysis using capillary electrophoresis (CE) and gel electrophoresis. Results: Of the 200 leftover blood samples with normal FBC indices, 10 were positive for the DCIP test of which 8 had Hb E trait and 2 had Hb Constant Spring. The DCIP test showed 100% sensitivity and 98.96% specificity with a 100% negative predictive value (NPV) and an 80.0 % positive predictive value (PPV). Conclusion: The DCIP test was an excellent screening tool that, when combined with FBC parameters can produce better results, particularly in areas with a high Hb E incidence

    Get PDF
The macronutrient status and the amount of nutrient removed from harvested fruits, pruned leaves and branches of starfruit of various crop loads grown under netted structure in MARDI Serdang, Selangor, was investigated. Only leaf N was significantly reduced with increase in crop load. The fruit and branch macronutrient concentrations were not influenced by the crop load. As crop load increased, the harvested fruit dry weight increased significantly (p ≤0.05). The total dry weight of leaf and branch removed after harvest was not significantly influenced by the crop load. The amount of nutrient (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) removed by harvested fruits increased significantly (p ≤0.05) with increase in crop load. However, the total amount of each nutrient removed after harvest (inclusive of harvested fruits, and pruned leaves and branches) were not significantly influenced by the crop load. This was due to the high vegetative growth of low crop load trees. The nutrient budget derived showed that the amount of fertilizer (720 g N: 735 g P2O5: 1 440 g K2O) provided to the plants were sufficient to support the various crop loads

A proteolytic enzyme called bromelin can be produced from pineapple stem by precipitating it from pineapple stem juice and separating the precipitate from the juice. Acetone is used as the precipitant. The precipitating process is performed twice and the second precipitate is taken as the bromelin product. This process is not well understood and is not amenable to mathematical modelling. The main aim of the present study is to identify process variables such as the precipitant: juice ratio, precipitation time and centrifugation time in every stage which have a significant effect on the yield and activity of bromelin. Factor analysis is used. This study found that the centrifugation times in both stages, precipitation and centrifugation times in the second stage affect the yield of bromelin. The enzyme activity is affected by the precipitant: juice ratio, the precipitation and centrifugation times in the first stage,' precipitant: juice ratio and precipitation time in the second stage. This process is currently being optimised
