Macroeconomic Effects of Fiscal Policies: Empirical Evidence from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia and the Philippines

    Get PDF
This paper studies macroeconomic effects of fiscal policies in four Asian countries - Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, and the Philippines - by means of structural macroeconometric model simulations. It is found that short-term fiscal multipliers from an untargeted increase in government expenditure are positive but much less than those from an increased expenditure targeted to capital spending. The multiplier effects from fiscal expansion via a tax rate reduction are found to be typically much less than through higher spending. The effectiveness of automatic stabilizers in general, and more specifically whether expenditure or tax-side stabilizer is more effective, differs across countries.Fiscal policy, Growth, Public finance, Deficit

Performance and Security Analysis for Proactive and Reactive Protocols in Mobile Ad-hoc Network

    Get PDF
This paper discussed about two proactive protocols which are DSDV and OLSR as well as two reactive protocols which are AODV and DSR. In addition, security analyses have been conducted and it covered the possible attacks that can be implemented against Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). Furthermore, analysis and the comparison studies of the routing protocols in MANET that is conducted by simulation are discussed. The metrics have been used to compare these routing protocols are throughput, end to end delay, packet delivery ratio fraction verses the number of nodes in AODV and DSR. A black hole security attack was simulated and analyzed for DSDV, AODV and DSR. This study also investigated the impact of the increased in number of nodes used in the simulation to have more accurate results for the analysis

The Effect of Maternal Tetanus Immunization on Children’s Schooling Attainment in Matlab, Bangladesh: Follow-up of a Randomized Trial

We investigate the effects of ante-natal maternal vaccination against tetanus on the schooling attained by children in Bangladesh. Maternal vaccination prevents the child from acquiring tetanus at birth through blood infection and substantially reduces infant mortality and may prevent impairment in children who would otherwise acquire tetanus but survive. We follow up on a 1974 randomized trial of maternal tetanus toxoid, looking at outcomes for children born in the period 1975-1979. We find significant schooling gains from maternal tetanus vaccination for children whose parents had no schooling, showing a large impact on a small number of children.Vaccination, tetanus, schooling, education, Bangladesh

VGDRA: A Virtual Grid-Based Dynamic Routes Adjustment Scheme for Mobile Sink-Based Wireless Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
In wireless sensor networks, exploiting the sink mobility has been considered as a good strategy to balance the nodes energy dissipation. Despite its numerous advantages, the data dissemination to the mobile sink is a challenging task for the resource constrained sensor nodes due to the dynamic network topology caused by the sink mobility. For efficient data delivery, nodes need to reconstruct their routes toward the latest location of the mobile sink, which undermines the energy conservation goal. In this paper, we present a virtual gridbased dynamic routes adjustment (VGDRA) scheme that aims to minimize the routes reconstruction cost of the sensor nodes while maintaining nearly optimal routes to the latest location of the mobile sink. We propose a set of communication rules that governs the routes reconstruction process thereby requiring only a limited number of nodes to readjust their data delivery routes toward the mobile sink. Simulation results demonstrate reduced routes reconstruction cost and improved network lifetime of the VGDRA scheme when compared with existing work
