HUMAN RESOURCE PRACTICES AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE. INCENTIVES AS MODERATOR

    Get PDF
It has become clear that firm performance has important implications for employees and organizations as confirmed by past researchers. This study examines human resource practices and the impact of incentives on manufacturing companies in the Malaysia context. Three types of human resource practices namely, performance appraisal, training, and information technology have been chosen as the focus of this research with the presence of incentives as moderator on organizational performance. This is imperative in order to ensure the successful management of employees and also to improve productivity and achievements of an organization. The research uses a sample of eighty-five firms in Sarawak, Malaysia, voluntarily participated in this study. The results have indicated that the two components of human resource (HR) practices namely, training and information technology have direct impact on organizational performance. It was found that incentive is positively related to organizational performance but did not moderate the relationship between both HR practices and organizational performance. Implications of the findings, potential limitations of the study, and directions for future research are suggested.HR practices, organizational performance, incentives, training, performance appraisal, information technology

The novel concepts and practices of firm innovativeness: the mediating and moderating impacts

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to propose a conceptual model that blends the dimensions of knowledge management, information technology capability, innovative culture and firm innovativeness into a single framework for practitioners and academicians. In conceptualising the model, this study reviewed a range of existing literature. The findings identified: 1) four processes of knowledge management that represents the construct; 2) information technology capability as a variable that mediates the relationship between knowledge management and firm innovativeness; 3) innovative culture as a variable that moderates the link between knowledge management and information technology capability. The resulting conceptualisation is meant for evaluating the potential strategic model for firms to implement information technology capability and innovative culture. It is posited that the proposed conceptual model, when implemented, would enable practitioners a better understanding on factors that enhance firm innovativeness

Vodi li namjera korištenja tehnologijom njezinoj stvarnoj upotrebi? Istraživanje sustava e-učenja među studentima u Maleziji

This paper intends to investigate the long debated notion of whether intention really leads to actual behavior in the e-learning environment. A model based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was tested using data gathered through a structured questionnaire with participation of undergraduate students from a number of universities in Malaysia. Using the variance based structural equation modeling analysis of Partial Least Square (PLS) the model obtained a GoF value of 0.602 which exceeded the 0.36 cut-off value for large effect sizes of R2, thus providing adequate support to validate the PLS model globally. All the hypotheses developed were corroborated with strong support for the Intention related to the Actual use, thus confirming the validity of the TAM in e-learning and within a context of a developing country. Implications for developers and administrators are further elaborated.

Sustainable Knowledge Management and Firm Innovativeness: The Contingent Role of Innovative Culture

    Get PDF
This study presents the moderating effect of innovative culture on the relationship between knowledge management and firm innovativeness. The consequences of organisations that do not practice innovative culture would result in their inability to respond and react effectively to changes in the dynamic nature of the business environment and henceforth unable to achieve superior performance. In attempting to answer the research questions, a total of 202 MSC Malaysia organisations took part in the survey. To assess the developed model, WarpPLS (version 7.0) was applied based on path modelling and then bootstrapping. The results highlighted that three of the four dimensions of knowledge management, namely knowledge acquisition, knowledge application and knowledge protection were positively and significantly related to firm innovativeness. On the other hand, innovative culture was found to moderate the relationships between knowledge acquisition and firm innovativeness; and knowledge application and firm innovativeness

The Determinants and Barriers of Outsourcing Third-Party Online Delivery : Perspectives of F&B Entrepreneurs in Malaysia

Online food delivery and food delivery apps have continued to grow exponentially in Malaysia. Fundamental aspects in entrepreneurship of the food and beverage industry, such as knowledge and attitudes towards online food delivery services being outsourced, have yet to be extensively recognized. The present study intends to explore this area of subject matter within the Malaysian context by using behavioral reasoning theory. The actual interview for this study took place in May 2020, and 14 interviews had been carried out. All interviews were audio-recorded with the consent from the respondents for reference purposes and subsequently transcribed verbatim. The transcripts were then checked against audio records. Content analysis was used to analyze the transcripts by focusing on n frequency counts and coding of themes. A qualitative method has been adopted by employing an interview to elicit the perspectives of entrepreneurs from Sarawak on the determinants and barriers in outsourcing online food delivery services. Results indicate that high potential in revenue, broad exposure to reach customers, convenience, and provision of job opportunities are the four factors that determine to outsource. In contrast, food quality maintenance, trustworthiness, high cost incurred, and consumer technology resistance are four factors that serve as barriers towards outsourcing third-party online delivery

Dimensionality of Communities’ Belief Attitude toward Rural Tourism Development

Rural tourism is becoming increasingly important to the Malaysian economy and tourism product offering. Rural tourism enables tourists to reunite with nature and the culture of the destinations, and that it contributes to the economic and social recovery of the rural areas, as well as to the conservation of the environment and the spreading of local cultures. Nonetheless, development projects are often designed and implemented in which indigenous people have minimal voice in policy and management of it. Tourism which simply transplants urban investment and enterprises to a rural setting does little to improve communities’ incomes. As a result, many indigenous people rightly feel that tourism industry has a poor track record, in disregarding their legitimate interests and rights, and profiting from their cultural knowledge and heritage. The present study in the paper involved looking at validating the dimensionality of the four tourism impact namely, economics, environment, social and cultural impact as perceived by local communities. Data was gathered through a survey using a structured questionnaire and administered to the community members residing at Bario. A series of tests such as factor analysis, correlation, and reliability analysis was conducted to confirm that the instrument is valid (content, construct, convergent, discriminant and nomological) as well as reliable. Implications regarding the value of conducting validity and reliability test for practitioners and researchers are discussed
