Quasi-Dynamic Frame Coordination For Ultra- Reliability and Low-Latency in 5G TDD Systems
The fifth generation (5G) mobile technology features the ultra-reliable and
low-latency communications (URLLC) as a major service class. URLLC applications
demand a tight radio latency with extreme link reliability. In 5G dynamic time
division duplexing (TDD) systems, URLLC requirements become further challenging
to achieve due to the severe and fast-varying cross link interference (CLI) and
the switching time of the radio frame configurations (RFCs). In this work, we
propose a quasi-dynamic inter-cell frame coordination algorithm using hybrid
frame design and a cyclic-offset-based RFC code-book. The proposed solution
adaptively updates the RFCs in time such that both the average CLI and the
user-centric radio latency are minimized. Compared to state-of-the-art dynamic
TDD studies, the proposed scheme shows a significant improvement in the URLLC
outage latency, i.e., 92% reduction gain, while boosting the cell-edge capacity
by 189% and with a greatly reduced coordination overhead space, limited to
B-bit

Life Cycle Assessment across the Food Supply Chain
The environmental impact is one of the major pillars of concerns when addressing the sustainability of food production and sustainable food consumption strategies.
To assess to what extent food production affects the environment, one needs to choose a proper environmental assessment tool. Different types of assessment tools have been developed to establish environmental indicators, which can be used to determine the environmental impact of livestock production systems or agricultural products. The environmen¬tal assessment tools can be divided into the area based or product based (Halberg et al., 2005). Area-based indicators are, for example, nitrate leached per hectare from a pig farm, and product-based indicators are, for example, global warming potential per kg pork (Dalgaard, 2007).
The area-based indicators are useful for evaluating farm emissions of nutrients such as nitrate that has an effect on the local environment. On the other hand, when considering the greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural production, the product-based indicators are useful for evaluating the impact of food productions on the global environment (e. g., climate change) and have the advantage that in addition to emis-sions from the farms, emissions related to the production of input s (e.g., soybean and artificial fertilizer) and outputs (e.g., slurry exported to other farms) are also included. In that way it is easier to avoid pollution swapping, which means that the solving of one pollution problem creates a new (Dalgaard, 2007)
Matter-positronium interaction: An exact diagonalization study of the He atom - positronium system
The many-body system comprising a He nucleus, three electrons, and a positron
has been studied using the exact diagonalization technique. The purpose has
been to clarify to which extent the system can be considered as a
distinguishable positronium (Ps) atom interacting with a He atom and, thereby,
to pave the way to a practical atomistic modeling of Ps states and annihilation
in matter. The maximum value of the distance between the positron and the
nucleus is constrained and the Ps atom at different distances from the nucleus
is identified from the electron and positron densities, as well as from the
electron-positron distance and center-of-mass distributions. The polarization
of the Ps atom increases as its distance from the nucleus decreases. A
depletion of the He electron density, particularly large at low density values,
has been observed. The ortho-Ps pick-off annihilation rate calculated as the
overlap of the positron and the free He electron densities has to be corrected
for the observed depletion, specially at large pores/voids.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figure
Functional status in ICU survivors and out of hospital outcomes: a cohort study
OBJECTIVES: Functional status at hospital discharge may be a risk factor for adverse events among survivors of critical illness. We sought to examine the association between functional status at hospital discharge in survivors of critical care and risk of 90-day all-cause mortality after hospital discharge. DESIGN: Single-center retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Academic Medical Center. PATIENTS: Ten thousand three hundred forty-three adults who received critical care from 1997 to 2011 and survived hospitalization. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: The exposure of interest was functional status determined at hospital discharge by a licensed physical therapist and rated based on qualitative categories adapted from the Functional Independence Measure. The main outcome was 90-day post hospital discharge all-cause mortality. A categorical risk-prediction score was derived and validated based on a logistic regression model of the function grades for each assessment. In an adjusted logistic regression model, the lowest quartile of functional status at hospital discharge was associated with an increased odds of 90-day postdischarge mortality compared with patients with independent functional status (odds ratio, 7.63 [95% CI, 3.83-15.22; p < 0.001]). In patients who had at least 7 days of physical therapy treatment prior to hospital discharge (n = 2,293), the adjusted odds of 90-day postdischarge mortality in patients with marked improvement in functional status at discharge was 64% less than patients with no change in functional status (odds ratio, 0.36 [95% CI, 0.24-0.53]; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Lower functional status at hospital discharge in survivors of critical illness is associated with increased postdischarge mortality.
