    In structure design, it is necessary to apply an economist and efficient design. Optimization techniques can be used for such purposes. The objective of this optimization is to optimize the objective function without neglecting boundary problem. Finite Element Method (Finite Element Method) is used in determining the response to various loading conditions. The combination of these two methods has been widely used in designing structures with static loading. By using the optimization module, the problem can be solved to obtain a new variable design of the system. If the design variables are included in the boundaries of design criteria, the optimization process is terminated. Conversely, if the value of the results of the analysis and optimization of the value of the module does not match, then the optimization process should be continued until the boundary conditions obtained meet the design criteria. From the results of optimization that has been done, the design meets the design criteria with variable boundary conditions. So it can be concluded that in designing the foundation due to static and seismic loads more efficiently change the thickness of the foundation plate of the changing width of the foundation

    Kajian Land Subsidence Untuk Perkuatan Tanah (Studi Kasus Sawahlunto)

    Sawahlunto have area of 27 345 hectares or 273.45 km2, which has a distance of 95 km from Padang. Sawahlunto include by hills, ramps and elevation 250-650 m above sea level. Now, Sawahlunto has problems, which has been land subsidence. Subsidence happens quite significant and can be fatal if there is construction on it, such as roads, houses and other. Land subsidence become a major issue for society. This research aims to determine the classification of land and calculating subsidence and finding solutions for soil reinforcement in Sawahlunto. This research was carried out by bore hole on a 4 point and laboratory test. At bore hole 1, Land subsidence depth of 5.6 cm, bore hole 2 depth of 14.48 cm, bore hole 3 depth of 27.1 and bore hole 4 depth of 15.6 cm. Soil reinforcement with vertical drainage on research 2.
