International audienceThis book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th IFIP WG 8.1 Working Conference on Method Engineering, ME 2011, held in Paris, France, in April 2011. The 13 revised full papers and 6 short papers presented together with the abstracts of two keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on situated method engineering, method engineering foundations, customized methods, tools for method engineering, new trends to build methods, and method engineering services

From user goals to process-based service compositions: A flexible semantic-based approach

International audienceComplex user's needs often require heterogeneous services to be combined together. In this paper, we explore a novel approach to enable flexible and dynamic composition of heterogeneous services for end users who are usually not familiar with technical process models. End-users are only required to model their goals and semantic reasoning is used for the composition itself. The possible service compositions are expressed in BPMN in order to be then processed by a BPMN engine. Since the composition is built on-the-fly, this approach avoids static linking of services and therefore is much more flexible

Assessment of Impacts of the Biomedical Careers Program – Just-a-Start Corporation of Cambridge, MA

In 2015, Just-a-Start Corporation (JAS) of Cambridge, MA asked the UMass Boston Center for Social Policy to conduct an assessment of the impacts of the Biomedical Careers Program on the region and state, examining individual impacts for graduates as well as the economic contributions of program graduates to the biomedical industry. The Biomedical Careers Program (hereafter “BioMed”) is described by JAS as an eight month program designed to enable local residents to complete “a Certificate in Biomedical Sciences to prepare them for entry level jobs at local biotechnology companies, universities, research institutions, clinical laboratories and hospitals. The program includes a comprehensive laboratory skills course, as well as career counseling and job placement assistance. After the course, participants of the program come out with eight (8) college credits from Bunker Hill Community College.” The jobs that the program aims to train graduates for include: laboratory technician/assistant, quality control technician, biologics manufacturing assistant, and animal care technician. The program offers free classroom and laboratory preparation to qualified applicants. It is targeted at students with a need for socioeconomic advancement. The program is one of several workforce development programs that are part of the city of Cambridge’s economic development initiatives

Incremental characterization of RDF Triple Stores

    Get PDF
Many semantic web applications integrate data from distributed triple stores and to be efficient, they need to know what kind of content each triple store holds in order to assess if it can contribute to its queries. We present an algorithm to build indexes summarizing the content of triple stores. We extended Depth-First Search coding to provide a canonical representation of RDF graphs and we introduce a new join operator between two graph codes to optimize the generation of an index. We provide an incremental update algorithm and conclude with tests on real datasets

Challenges in Bridging Social Semantics and Formal Semantics on the Web

This paper describes several results of Wimmics, a research lab which names stands for: web-instrumented man-machine interactions, communities, and semantics. The approaches introduced here rely on graph-oriented knowledge representation, reasoning and operationalization to model and support actors, actions and interactions in web-based epistemic communities. The re-search results are applied to support and foster interactions in online communities and manage their resources
