The Mandarin classifier is changing: How and why
This study aims to investigate the current state of Mandarin nominal classifier, uncover the change in classifiers across time, and explore the social meaning of classifier variation. A production experiment found a decline in diversity in specific classifiers over time. Perception results from the younger group demonstrate that classifier variation indexes a series of related personality characteristics. The age difference in participants’ production and perception indicates that the classifier variation is a change led by young people and suggests such change might have been motivated by the variable’s social meanings
Evidence for quasi-one-dimensional charge density wave in CuTe by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
We report the electronic structure of CuTe with a high charge density wave
(CDW) transition temperature Tc = 335 K by angle-resolved photoemission
spectroscopy (ARPES). An anisotropic charge density wave gap with a maximum
value of 190 meV is observed in the quasi-one-dimensional band formed by Te px
orbitals. The CDW gap can be filled by increasing temperature or electron
doping through in situ potassium deposition. Combining the experimental results
with calculated electron scattering susceptibility and phonon dispersion, we
suggest that both Fermi surface nesting and electron-phonon coupling play
important roles in the emergence of the CDW
A model-free direct predictive grid-current control strategy for grid-connected converter with an inductance-capacitance-inductance filter
The disadvantages of the conventional model predictive current control method for the grid-connected converter (GCC) with an inductance-capacitance-inductance (LCL) filter are a large amount of calculation and poor parameter robustness. Once parameters of the model are mismatched, the control accuracy of model predictive control (MPC) will be reduced, which will seriously affect the power quality of the GCC. The article intuitively analyzes the sensitivity of parameter mismatch on the current predictive control of the conventional LCL-filtered GCC. In order to solve these issues, a model-free predictive current control (MFPCC) method for the LCL-filtered GCC is proposed in this paper. The contribution of this work is that a novel current predictive robust controller for the LCL-filtered GCC is designed based on the principle of the ultra-local model of a single input single output system. The proposed control method does not require using any model parameters in the controller, which can effectively suppress the disturbances of the uncertain parameter variations. Compared with conventional MPC, the proposed MFPCC has smaller current total harmonic distortion (THD). When the filter parameters are mismatched, the control error of the proposed method is smaller. Finally, a comparative experimental study is carried out on the platform of Typhoon and PE-Expert4 to verify the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed MFPCC method for the LCL-filtered GCC
Transcriptome Analysis Provides Insights Into the Adaptive Responses to Hypoxia of a Schizothoracine Fish (Gymnocypris eckloni)
The schizothoracine fish endemic to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau are comparatively well adapted to aquatic environments with low oxygen partial pressures. However, few studies have used transcriptomic profiling to investigate the adaptive responses of schizothoracine fish tissues to hypoxic stress. This study compared the transcriptomes of Gymnocypris eckloni subjected to 72 h of hypoxia (Dissolved oxygen, DO = 3.0 ± 0.1 mg/L) to those of G. eckloni under normoxia (DO = 8.4 ± 0.1 mg/L). To identify the potential genes and pathways activated in response to hypoxic stress, we collected muscle, liver, brain, heart, and blood samples from normoxic and hypoxic fish for RNA-Seq analysis. We annotated 337,481 gene fragments. Of these, 462 were differentially expressed in the hypoxic fish as compared to the normoxic fish. Under hypoxia, the transcriptomic profiles of the tissues differed, with muscle the most strongly affected by hypoxia. Our data indicated that G. eckloni underwent adaptive changes in gene expression in response to hypoxia. Several strategies used by G. eckloni to cope with hypoxia were similar to those used by other fish, including a switch from aerobic oxidation to anaerobic glycolysis and the suppression of major energy-requiring processes. However, G. eckloni used an additional distinct strategy to survive hypoxic environments: a strengthening of the antioxidant system and minimization of ischemic injury. Here, we identified several pathways and related genes involved in the hypoxic response of the schizothoracine fish. This study provides insights into the mechanisms used by schizothoracine fish to adapt to hypoxic environments
Probing Primordial Gravitational Waves: Ali CMB Polarization Telescope
In this paper, we will give a general introduction to the project of Ali CMB
Polarization Telescope (AliCPT), which is a Sino-US joint project led by the
Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and has involved many different
institutes in China. It is the first ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background
(CMB) polarization experiment in China and an integral part of China's
Gravitational Waves Program. The main scientific goal of AliCPT project is to
probe the primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) originated from the very early
Universe.
The AliCPT project includes two stages. The first stage referred to as
AliCPT-1, is to build a telescope in the Ali region of Tibet with an altitude
of 5,250 meters. Once completed, it will be the worldwide highest ground-based
CMB observatory and open a new window for probing PGWs in northern hemisphere.
AliCPT-1 telescope is designed to have about 7,000 TES detectors at 90GHz and
150GHz. The second stage is to have a more sensitive telescope (AliCPT-2) with
the number of detectors more than 20,000.
Our simulations show that AliCPT will improve the current constraint on the
tensor-to-scalar ratio by one order of magnitude with 3 years' observation.
Besides the PGWs, the AliCPT will also enable a precise measurement on the CMB
rotation angle and provide a precise test on the CPT symmetry. We show 3 years'
observation will improve the current limit by two order of magnitude.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 2 table
