    Extreme value distributions of noncolliding diffusion processes

    Noncolliding diffusion processes reported in the present paper are NN-particle systems of diffusion processes in one-dimension, which are conditioned so that all particles start from the origin and never collide with each other in a finite time interval (0,T)(0, T), 0<T<0 < T < \infty. We consider four temporally inhomogeneous processes with duration TT, the noncolliding Brownian bridge, the noncolliding Brownian motion, the noncolliding three-dimensional Bessel bridge, and the noncolliding Brownian meander. Their particle distributions at each time t[0,T]t \in [0, T] are related to the eigenvalue distributions of random matrices in Gaussian ensembles and in some two-matrix models. Extreme values of paths in [0,T][0, T] are studied for these noncolliding diffusion processes and determinantal and pfaffian representations are given for the distribution functions.     Characterization of Clonal Polyp Strains Established from Aurelia sp. Inhabiting the Seto Inland Sea of Japan

    ミズクラゲ(Aurelia sp.)の生活環の中で,ポリプからストロビラを経てエフィラに形態変化する過程はストロビレーションと呼ばれる。ストロビレーションの分子機構の解明に向けて分子生物学的および生化学的研究を進めるために,瀬戸内海産のミズクラゲからポリプのクローン系統を7株確立した。実験室内でストロビレーションを誘導する条件を検討した結果,これらのクローン系統は,25℃から10℃への低温処理によって32- 42日でストロビレーションを開始し,indomethacin (25μM)の投与によって25℃条件下で4-8日でストロビレーションを開始した。また,短期間だけ低温処理をおこなう飼育実験の結果,ストロビレーションは一旦開始すると低温条件下でなくても正常に進行し完了することが明らかになった。さらに,分子系統解析の結果,今回確立したクローン系統がAurelia sp.1(Dawson et al., 2005)であることが示唆された。In the life cycle of Aurelia sp., the transition from polyp to strobila/ephyra is called“strobilation”. To study the molecular mechanisms of strobilation with molecular biological and biochemical approaches, we established 7 clonal polyp strains from Aurelia sp. inhabiting the Seto Inland Sea of Japan. In laboratory condition, the clonal strains started strobilation in 32 - 42 days by a temperature change from 25˚C to 10˚C, or in 4 - 8 days at 25˚C by administration of indomethacin (25 μM). The experiments of short-term low-temperature treatments revealed that strobilation proceeded to the end independently of temperature after strobilation had been initiated.     Two Bessel Bridges Conditioned Never to Collide, Double Dirichlet Series, and Jacobi Theta Function

    It is known that the moments of the maximum value of a one-dimensional conditional Brownian motion, the three-dimensional Bessel bridge with duration 1 started from the origin, are expressed using the Riemann zeta function. We consider a system of two Bessel bridges, in which noncolliding condition is imposed. We show that the moments of the maximum value is then expressed using the double Dirichlet series, or using the integrals of products of the Jacobi theta functions and its derivatives. Since the present system will be provided as a diffusion scaling limit of a version of vicious walker model, the ensemble of 2-watermelons with a wall, the dominant terms in long-time asymptotics of moments of height of 2-watermelons are completely determined.     BdWRKY38 is required for the incompatible interaction of Brachypodium distachyon with the necrotrophic fungus Rhizoctonia solani

    Rhizoctonia solani is a soil‐borne necrotrophic fungus that causes sheath blight in grasses. The basal resistance of compatible interactions between R. solani and rice is known to be modulated by some WRKY transcription factors (TFs). However, genes and defense responses involved in incompatible interaction with R. solani remain unexplored, because no such interactions are known in any host plants. Recently, we demonstrated that Bd3‐1, an accession of the model grass Brachypodium distachyon, is resistant to R. solani and, upon inoculation with the fungus, undergoes rapid induction of genes responsive to the phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) that encode the WRKY TFs BdWRKY38 and BdWRKY44. Here, we show that endogenous SA and these WRKY TFs positively regulate this accession‐specific R. solani resistance. In contrast to a susceptible accession (Bd21), the infection process in the resistant accessions Bd3‐1 and Tek‐3 was suppressed at early stages before the development of fungal biomass and infection machinery. A comparative transcriptome analysis during pathogen infection revealed that putative WRKY‐dependent defense genes were induced faster in the resistant accessions than in Bd21. A gene regulatory network (GRN) analysis based on the transcriptome dataset demonstrated that BdWRKY38 was a GRN hub connected to many target genes specifically in resistant accessions, whereas BdWRKY44 was shared in the GRNs of all three accessions. Moreover, overexpression of BdWRKY38 increased R. solani resistance in Bd21. Our findings demonstrate that these resistant accessions can activate an incompatible host response to R. solani, and BdWRKY38 regulates this response by mediating SA signaling

    Management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Japan : JSH Consensus Statements and Recommendations 2021 Update

    The Clinical Practice Manual for Hepatocellular Carcinoma was published based on evidence confirmed by the Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines for Hepatocellular Carcinoma along with consensus opinion among a Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH) expert panel on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Since the JSH Clinical Practice Guidelines are based on original articles with extremely high levels of evidence, expert opinions on HCC management in clinical practice or consensus on newly developed treatments are not included. However, the practice manual incorporates the literature based on clinical data, expert opinion, and real-world clinical practice currently conducted in Japan to facilitate its use by clinicians. Alongside each revision of the JSH Guidelines, we issued an update to the manual, with the first edition of the manual published in 2007, the second edition in 2010, the third edition in 2015, and the fourth edition in 2020, which includes the 2017 edition of the JSH Guideline. This article is an excerpt from the fourth edition of the HCC Clinical Practice Manual focusing on pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of HCC. It is designed as a practical manual different from the latest version of the JSH Clinical Practice Guidelines. This practice manual was written by an expert panel from the JSH, with emphasis on the consensus statements and recommendations for the management of HCC proposed by the JSH expert panel. In this article, we included newly developed clinical practices that are relatively common among Japanese experts in this field, although all of their statements are not associated with a high level of evidence, but these practices are likely to be incorporated into guidelines in the future. To write this article, coauthors from different institutions drafted the content and then critically reviewed each other’s work. The revised content was then critically reviewed by the Board of Directors and the Planning and Public Relations Committee of JSH before publication to confirm the consensus statements and recommendations. The consensus statements and recommendations presented in this report represent measures actually being conducted at the highest-level HCC treatment centers in Japan. We hope this article provides insight into the actual situation of HCC practice in Japan, thereby affecting the global practice pattern in the management of HCC

    Status of 48Ca double beta decay search in CANDLES

    We study a strategy to reduce veto-time in the search for neutrino-less double-beta decay (0υββ) with CANDLES-III system. We develop a new likelihood analysis and apply it to our new Run010 data. We show that we can increase the un-vetoed live-time by 11.8%. Thanks to this improvements, We expect to increase a limit on the life-time of 0υββ by a factor of three by analyzing both Run009 and Run010 data

    New susceptibility and resistance HLA-DP alleles to HBV-related diseases identified by a trans-ethnic association study in Asia

    Previous studies have revealed the association between SNPs located on human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II genes, including HLA-DP and HLA-DQ, and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, mainly in Asian populations. HLA-DP alleles or haplotypes associated with chronic HBV infection or disease progression have not been fully identified in Asian populations. We performed trans-ethnic association analyses of HLA-DPA1, HLA-DPB1 alleles and haplotypes with hepatitis B virus infection and disease progression among Asian populations comprising Japanese, Korean, Hong Kong, and Thai subjects. To assess the association between HLA-DP and chronic HBV infection and disease progression, we conducted high-resolution (4-digit) HLA-DPA1 and HLA-DPB1 genotyping in a total of 3,167 samples, including HBV patients, HBV-resolved individuals and healthy controls. Trans-ethnic association analyses among Asian populations identified a new risk allele HLA-DPB1*09 ratio 01 (P = 1.36 x 10(-6); OR= 1.97; 95% CI, 1.50-2.59) and a new protective allele DPB1*02 ratio 01 (P = 5.22 x 10(-6); OR = 0.68; 95% CI, 0.58-0.81) to chronic HBV infection, in addition to the previously reported alleles. Moreover, DPB1*02 ratio 01 was also associated with a decreased risk of disease progression in chronic HBV patients among Asian populations (P = 1.55 x 10(-7); OR = 0.50; 95% CI, 0.39-0.65). Trans-ethnic association analyses identified Asian-specific associations of HLA-DP alleles and haplotypes with HBV infection or disease progression. The present findings will serve as a base for future functional studies of HLA-DP molecules in order to understand the pathogenesis of HBV infection and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.published_or_final_versio

    High-power laser experiment forming a supercritical collisionless shock in a magnetized uniform plasma at rest

    We present a new experimental method to generate quasi-perpendicular supercritical magnetized collisionless shocks. In our experiment, ambient nitrogen (N) plasma is at rest and well-magnetized, and it has uniform mass density. The plasma is pushed by laser-driven ablation aluminum (Al) plasma. Streaked optical pyrometry and spatially resolved laser collective Thomson scattering clarify structures of plasma density and temperatures, which are compared with one-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. It is indicated that just after the laser irradiation, the Al plasma is magnetized by a self-generated Biermann battery field, and the plasma slaps the incident N plasma. The compressed external field in the N plasma reflects N ions, leading to counter-streaming magnetized N flows. Namely we identify the edge of the reflected N ions. Such interacting plasmas form a magnetized collisionless shock
