    The purpose of this study was to investigate the idea that the personal characteristics of the worker and his general attitude toward his environment influence his attitude about his job. 101 public school teachers were administered five questionnaires to measure: overall job satisfaction with a job, degree of intrinsic job satisfaction, general satisfaction, neuroticism, and 18 personality variables. Results suggested that job satisfaction had a positive relation to general satisfaction and a negative relation to maladjustment. Overall job satisfaction and intrinsic job satisfaction were not related to each other and each related to a different set of personality dimensions

    Three-Dimensional Bioprinting Materials with Potential Application in Preprosthetic Surgery

    Current methods in handling maxillofacial defects are not robust and are highly dependent on the surgeon’s skills and the inherent potential in the patients’ bodies for regenerating lost tissues. Employing custom-designed 3D printed scaffolds that securely and effectively reconstruct the defects by using tissue engineering and regenerative medicine techniques can revolutionize preprosthetic surgeries. Various polymers, ceramics, natural and synthetic bioplastics, proteins, biomolecules, living cells, and growth factors as well as their hybrid structures can be used in 3D printing of scaffolds, which are still under development by scientists. These scaffolds not only are beneficial due to their patient-specific design, but also may be able to prevent micromobility, make tension free soft tissue closure, and improve vascularity. In this manuscript, a review of materials employed in 3D bioprinting including bioceramics, biopolymers, composites, and metals is conducted. A discussion of the relevance of 3D bioprinting using these materials for craniofacial interventions is included as well as their potential to create analogs to craniofacial tissues, their benefits, limitations, and their application

    Bidirectional ventricular tachycardia in cardiac sarcoidosis.

    A 73-year-old man with history of pulmonary sarcoidosis was found to have runs of non-sustained bidirectional ventricular tachycardia (BVT) with two different QRS morphologies on a Holter monitor. Cardiac magnetic resonance delayed gadolinium imaging revealed a region of patchy mid-myocardial enhancement within the left ventricular basal inferolateral myocardium. An 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) showed increased uptake in the same area, consistent with active sarcoid, with no septal involvement. Follow-up FDG-PET one year later showed disease progression with new septal involvement. Cardiac sarcoidosis, characterized by myocardial inflammation and interstitial fibrosis that can lead to conduction system disturbance and macro re-entrant arrhythmias, should be considered in differential diagnosis of BVT. BVT may indicate septal involvement with sarcoidosis before the lesions are large enough to be detected radiologically

    The role of preoperative computed tomography in surgical planning of intertrochanteric femur fractures fixation

    Background: A precise preoperative evaluation of stability of intertrochanteric fractures is crucial for surgical planning. Three dimensional CT scanning is a useful tool for understanding the exact type of fracture pattern.  Methods: A prospective study included 40 patients with intertrochanteric femoral fractures. They were classified into stable and unstable intertrochanteric fractures according to the X-ray based AO/OTA classification and according to Nakano 3D-CT classification and both classifications were correlated. The patients were operated on using dynamic hip screw (DHS) and were assessed radiologically and clinically by Harris hip score (HHS) after 6 months. Results: There was significant statistical difference (p=0.031) and relation (p<0.001) between X-ray based AO/OTA classification and 3D-CT classification. Six cases from the 24 cases with stable pattern in AO/OTA system have unstable patterns in the 3D-CT (25%) and their percent from the 22 unstable patterns in 3D-CT is 27.27% and their percent from the total number of patients in the study is 15%.  Conclusions: The superolateral support in the form of the greater trochanter which affects the lateral wall thickness is as important as the posteromedial lesser fragment in assessing the stability of the fracture pattern.

    Biological activity of glucosinolate derived compounds isolated from seed meal of Brassica crops and evaluated as plant and food protection agents

    Glucosinolates are amino acid derived allelochemicals characteristic of plants of the order Capparales. These compounds are present in seeds of agriculturally common Brassica crops in varying quantities depending on the species (ref). The use of the remaining seed cake after oil extraction has traditionally been limited by the concentration of these compounds. However, the extraction of glucosinolates from seed meal is nowadays possible and it further contributes to an increased quality of the seed meal for feed (Sørensen et al., this conference). Glucosinolates are hydrolysed by endogenous enzymes (myrosinases; EC 3.2.1.147) and a number of compounds are produced depending on the parent glucosinolate and the environmental conditions.1 Among these compounds, oxazolidine-2-thiones are known for their antinutritional effects on monogastric animals, whereas isothiocyanates are fungicidal, nematocidal and herbicidal.2,3 The possibility for using glucosinolates as precursors for environmental friendly biocides therefore exists, which could contribute to increase the value of the Brassica seed meal

    Type II Seesaw Dominance in Non-supersymmetric and Split Susy SO(10) and Proton Life Time

    Recently type II seesaw dominance in a supersymmetric SO(10) framework has been found useful in explaining large solar and atmospheric mixing angles as well as larger values of theta13theta_{13} while unifying quark and lepton masses. An important question in these models is whether there exists consistency between coupling unification and type II seesaw dominance. Scenarios where this consistency can be demonstrated have been given in a SUSY framework. In this paper we give examples where type II dominance occurs in SO(10) models without supersymmetry but with additional TeV scale particles and also in models with split-supersummetry. Grand unification is realized in a two-step process via breaking of SO(10) to SU(5) and then to a TeV scale standard model supplemented by extra fields and an SU(5) Higgs multiplet 15H{15}_H at a scale about 101210^{12} GeV to give type-II seesaw. The predictions for proton lifetime in these models are in the range τp0=2×1035\tau_p^0 = 2\times 10^{35} yrs. to τp0=6×1035\tau_p^0 = 6\times 10^{35} yrs..
