Exploring Road Incident Data with Heat Maps
This research seeks to determine whether heat mapping is an effective technique for the visual exploration of road incident data. Four software prototypes, which adopted map, treemap and spatial treemap layouts, were developed using open source software. Whilst the visualization process described by Fry (2007) informed the development effort, the evaluation methodology was based on the Nested Process Model (Munzner, 2009). The results of two evaluation methods-a design study and the presentation and discussion of results with domain experts-confirm heat mapping's validity and provide requirements for further software development
A critical analysis of the hydrino model
Recently, spectroscopic and calorimetric observations of hydrogen plasmas and
chemical reactions with them have been interpreted as evidence for the
existence of electronic states of the hydrogen atom with a binding energy of
more than 13.6 eV. The theoretical basis for such states, that have been dubbed
hydrinos, is investigated. We discuss both, the novel deterministic model of
the hydrogen atom, in which the existence of hydrinos was predicted, and
standard quantum mechanics. Severe inconsistencies in the deterministic model
are pointed out and the incompatibility of hydrino states with quantum
mechanics is reviewed.Comment: 9 page
A Better Definition of the Kilogram
This article reviews several recent proposed redefinitions of the kilogram,
and compares them with respect to practical realizations, uncertainties
(estimated standard deviations), and educational aspects.Comment: 10 pages, no figure
