Perspectives on Time Commitment to Fundraising by Community College Presidents
All types of higher education institutions have come to rely on some element of revenue diversification, and fundraising from private sources has become increasingly common and popular among community college presidents. Yet despite the growth in attention to fundraising, community colleges collectively only garner 2% of all philanthropic support to higher education. With the growing demand for private funds, community college presidents must understand how they are using their time for fundraising, and ultimately, the consequence of these fundraising efforts. The current study explored the time commitment of college presidents, finding that they spend as much as 30% of their workplace time each month on development related activities
An overview of aerospace gas turbine technology of relevance to the development of the automotive gas turbine engine

Computer program documentation for the pasture/range condition assessment processor
The processor which drives for the RANGE software allows the user to analyze LANDSAT data containing pasture and rangeland. Analysis includes mapping, generating statistics, calculating vegetative indexes, and plotting vegetative indexes. Routines for using the processor are given. A flow diagram is included
Transverse Quark Distribution in Mesons - QCD Sum Rule Approach -
QCD sum rules are used to compute the first few moments of the mesonic quark
momentum. Transverse, longitudinal and mixed transverse-longitudinal components
are examined. The transverse size of the pion is shown to be dictated by the
gluon condensate, even though the mass and the longitudinal distribution are
dominated by the quark condensate. The implications of our results for color

Near- to mid-infrared picosecond optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO4
We describe a Ti:sapphire-pumped picosecond optical parametric oscillator based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO4 that is broadly tunable in the near to mid infrared. A 4.5-mm single-grating crystal at room temperature in combination with pump wavelength tuning provided access to a continuous-tuning range from 3.35 to 5 mu m, and a pump power threshold of 90 mW was measured. Average mid-infrared output powers in excess of 100 mW and total output powers of 400 mW in similar to 1-ps pulses were obtained at 33% extraction efficiency. (C) 1998 Optical Society of America.</p
A 10-year Study of Factors Associated with Alcohol Treatment Use and Non-use in a U.S. Population Sample
Background This study seeks to identify changes in perceived barriers to alcohol treatment and predictors of treatment use between 1991–92 and 2001–02, to potentially help understand reported reductions in treatment use at this time. Social, economic, and health trends during these 10 years provide a context for the study.
Methods Subjects were Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics. The data were from the National Longitudinal Alcohol Epidemiologic Survey (NLAES) and the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). We conducted two analyses that compared the surveys on: 1) perceived treatment barriers for subjects who thought they should get help for their drinking, and 2) variables predicting past-year treatment use in an alcohol use disorder subsample using a multi-group multivariate regression model.
Results In the first analysis, those barriers that reflected negative beliefs and fears about seeking treatment as well as perceptions about the lack of need for treatment were more prevalent in 2001–02. The second analysis showed that survey year moderated the relationship between public insurance coverage and treatment use. This relationship was not statistically significant in 1991–92 but was significant and positive in 2001–02, although the effect of this change on treatment use was small.
Conclusions Use of alcohol treatment in the U.S. may be affected by a number of factors, such as trends in public knowledge about treatment, social pressures to reduce drinking, and changes in the public financing of treatment
Excitation and emission spectra of rubidium in rare-gas thin-films
To understand the optical properties of atoms in solid state matrices, the
absorption, excitation and emission spectra of rubidium doped thin-films of
argon, krypton and xenon were investigated in detail. A two-dimensional
spectral analysis extends earlier reports on the excitation and emission
properties of rubidium in rare-gas hosts. We found that the doped crystals of
krypton and xenon exhibit a simple absorption-emission relation, whereas
rubidium in argon showed more complicated spectral structures. Our sample
preparation employed in the present work yielded different results for the Ar
crystal, but our peak positions were consistent with the prediction based on
the linear extrapolation of Xe and Kr data. We also observed a bleaching
behavior in rubidium excitation spectra, which suggests a population transfer
from one to another spectral feature due to hole-burning. The observed optical
response implies that rubidium in rare-gas thin-films is detectable with
extremely high sensitivity, possibly down to a single atom level, in low

Models of q-algebra representations: Tensor products of special unitary and oscillator algebras
This paper begins a study of one- and two-variable function space models of irreducible representations of q analogs of Lie enveloping algebras, motivated by recurrence relations satisfied by q-hypergeometric functions. The algebras considered are the quantum algebra Uq(su2) and a q analog of the oscillator algebra (not a quantum algebra). In each case a simple one-variable model of the positive discrete series of finite- and infinite-dimensional irreducible representations is used to compute the Clebsch–Gordan coefficients. It is shown that various q analogs of the exponential function can be used to mimic the exponential mapping from a Lie algebra to its Lie group and the corresponding matrix elements of the ``group operators'' on these representation spaces are computed. It is shown that the matrix elements are polynomials satisfying orthogonality relations analogous to those holding for true irreducible group representations. It is also demonstrated that general q-hypergeometric functions can occur as basis functions in two-variable models, in contrast with the very restricted parameter values for the q-hypergeometric functions arising as matrix elements in the theory of quantum groups
