Shapes of coil ends in racetrack layout for superconducting magnets

Racetrack coils have received considerable attention for Nb3_{3}Sn magnets, both built using the React-and-Wind and Wind-and-React techniques. The geometry usually consists of a series of straight parts connected with circular arcs. Therefore, at the interface between these sections, a finite change in curvature is imposed on the cable. Alternative transition curves are analyzed here, with a particular focus on the total strain energy and the minimum / maximum radii of curvature. The study is presented in dimensionless form and the various alternatives are detailed in mathematical terms, so to be used for drafting or simulations. Extensions for the design of flared ends are also briefly discussed. This study is within the framework of the EuCARD WP7-HFM project. In particular, the proposed curve can be used for the end design of the high field model magnet (Task 7.3)

Lights, Camera, Legal Action: Assessing the Question of Acting Performance Copyrights Through the Lens of Comparative Law

This Note will use comparative methods to consider whether an actor should have such an interest based on America’s international obligations under various intellectual property treaties, the treatment of acting performances in parallel foreign jurisdictions, and the current framework of American copyright law. Despite agreeing that, on the particular facts of Garcia, the Ninth Circuit reached the correct conclusion, this Note asserts that Garcia has identified a gap in American intellectual property law. In accordance with the fundamental principles underlying intellectual property law and global trends, this Note will argue that this problem should be addressed by incorporating into the American intellectual property scheme an enumerated set of performers’ rights and limited moral rights
