Hemorrhagic cystitis is a disorder which causes bleeding from diffusely inflammatory bladder mucosa. Here we present a case of severe hemorrhagic cystitis caused by melphalan. A 70-year-old man with multiple myeloma was presented with suddenly commenced massive gross hematuria. During an attempt of transurethral coagulation of bladder mucosa, bladder perforation into peritoneal cavity was suspected, then open laparotomy was indicated. We isolated bilateral internal iliac arteries and ligated them in order to control continued bleeding. After that, bladder bleeding was suddenly diminished. Ligation of internal iliac arteries may be a choice in controlling massive bleeding from bladder with severe hemorrhagic cystitis when laparotomy was inevitable

Identification of reliable markers of chemo- and radiosensitivity and the key molecules that enhance the susceptibility of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) to anticancer treatments is highly desirable. Previously, we have reported that regenerating gene (REG) Ⅲ expression was such a marker associated with an improved survival rate for HNSCC patients. In the present study, we investigated the stimulators for induction of REG Ⅲ expression using REG Ⅲ promoter assay in HNSCC cells transfected with REG Ⅲ promoter vector. We tested inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, polyphenols, PPARγ activator of thiazolidinediones, and histone deacetylase inhibitors, and found that 3,4',5-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene (resveratrol) significantly increased the REG Ⅲ promoter activity and the mRNA levels of REG Ⅲ in HNSCC cells. Moreover, we demonstrated the effect of resveratrol on cancer cell progression, such as cell proliferation, chemo‑ and radiosensitivity and cancer invasion of HNSCC cells. Resveratrol significantly inhibited cell growth, enhanced chemo‑ and radiosensitivity, and blocked cancer invasion of HNSCC cells. These data suggested that resveratrol could inhibit cancer progression through the REG Ⅲ expression pathway in HNSCC cells.博士(医学)・甲第682号・平成30年3月15日Copyright © Spandidos Publications 2017. An Efficiency Degradation Model of Power Amplifier and the Impact against Transmission Power Control for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract—To extend an available period of wireless sensor networks, transmission power control is regarded as one of the promising schemes. In most of the previous studies on the transmission power control, it is assumed that a transmitter has power consumption of O(dn), where d and n denote a maximum communication distance and a pass loss factor. This assumption would substantially hold under the condition that the transmission efficiency is always constant at any transmission power (efficiency-fixed model). In practice, however, the trans-mission efficiency degrades as the transmission power is reduced. We analytically verify that an actual power amplifier with the efficiency degradation has a power consumption of O(dr), where n/2.8 ≤ r ≤ n/2 (efficiency-degradation model). The efficiency-degradation model gives the negative impact against the transmission power control. Index Terms—Wireless sensor network, transmission power control, transmission efficiency, pass loss factor. I

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity 34, 1 (2024); https://doi.org/10.1109/TASC.2024.3360935.High temperature superconducting REBCO tape has the characteristic of maintaining high critical current density under strong external magnetic field, which makes it an ideal material for the construction of air-core electromagnets of accelerator and electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source. In Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka University, a non-insulated air-cored REBCO coil assembly has been constructed. This coil assebmly consists of three circular REBCO solenoid and six racetrack REBCO coil. This coil assembly will be used as an electromagnet of a multi-frequency ECR ion source, and is also developed as a key technology development of an air-core cyclotron. The magnetic field of this ion source are designed, and 77 K performance tests of the assembly are carried out in order to examine the capability of REBCO coils of inducing magnetic field under external field. In this work, the test results and the magnetic field designed for the ECR ion source will be presented and discussed

Appropriately responding to various sensory signals in the environment is essential for animal survival. Accordingly, animal behaviors are closely related to external and internal states, which include the positive and negative emotional values of sensory signals triggered by environmental factors. While the lateral parabrachial nucleus (LPB) plays a key role in nociception and supports negative valences, it also transmits signals including positive valences. However, the downstream neuronal mechanisms of positive and negative valences have not been fully explored. In the present study, we investigated the ventral tegmental area (VTA) as a projection target for LPB neurons. Optogenetic activation of LPB-VTA terminals in male mice elicits positive reinforcement in an operant task and induces both avoidance and attraction in a place-conditioning task. Inhibition of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) 65-expressing cells in the VTA promotes avoidance behavior induced by photoactivation of the LPB-VTA pathway. These findings indicate that the LPB-VTA pathway is one of the LPB outputs for the transmission of positive and negative valence signals, at least in part, with GABAergic modification in VTA
