On the stability of the primordial closed string gas

We recast the study of a closed string gas in a toroidal container in the physical situation in which the single string density of states is independent of the volume because energy density is very high. This includes the gas for the well known Brandenberger-Vafa cosmological scenario. We describe the gas in the grandcanonical and microcanonical ensembles. In the microcanonical description, we find a result that clearly confronts the Brandenberger-Vafa calculation to get the specific heat of the system. The important point is that we use the same approach to the problem but a different regularization. By the way, we show that, in the complex temperature formalism, at the Hagedorn singularity, the analytic structure obtained from the so-called F-representation of the free energy coincides with the one computed using the S-representation.Comment: 20 pages and 1 figure. CIBERER : Spanish national network for research on rare diseases: A highly productive collaborative initiative

Altres ajuts: Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII); Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.CIBER (Center for Biomedical Network Research; Centro de Investigación Biomédica En Red) is a public national consortium created in 2006 under the umbrella of the Spanish National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII). This innovative research structure comprises 11 different specific areas dedicated to the main public health priorities in the National Health System. CIBERER, the thematic area of CIBER focused on rare diseases (RDs) currently consists of 75 research groups belonging to universities, research centers, and hospitals of the entire country. CIBERER's mission is to be a center prioritizing and favoring collaboration and cooperation between biomedical and clinical research groups, with special emphasis on the aspects of genetic, molecular, biochemical, and cellular research of RDs. This research is the basis for providing new tools for the diagnosis and therapy of low-prevalence diseases, in line with the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) objectives, thus favoring translational research between the scientific environment of the laboratory and the clinical setting of health centers. In this article, we intend to review CIBERER's 15-year journey and summarize the main results obtained in terms of internationalization, scientific production, contributions toward the discovery of new therapies and novel genes associated to diseases, cooperation with patients' associations and many other topics related to RD research

Boletina No. 6: Gestionar la memoria

Es un gusto presentarles Gestionar la memoria en la sexta edición de La Boletina anual, revista de la Escuela de Estudios de Género de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Para este volumen buscamos ahondar en la reflexión crítica sobre las maneras como se están construyendo las memorias de las violencias y de la guerra en Colombia, poniendo en perspectiva el género frente a su construcción. Interesadas en el auge actual de la memoria (como elemento central para el diseño de políticas públicas, fuente y método para las ciencias sociales, tema de trabajo de prácticas artísticas y culturales, entre otros), diseñamos una editorial encaminada al análisis de cómo la memoria, en su ejercicio de construcción del pasado, puede potencialmente contribuir al reconocimiento de experiencias y realidades ocultadas en el marco de una cultura patriarcal. Sin embargo, y como complemento de este auge, advertimos la necesidad de análisis críticos acerca de sus posibles efectos en la realidad, sus riesgos y excesos, así como los discursos alrededor de su gestión.It is a pleasure to present Gestionar la memoria in the sixth edition of La Boletina, the journal of the School of Gender Studies of the National University of Colombia. For this volume we seek to delve into critical reflection on the ways in which memories of violence and war in Colombia are being constructed, putting gender in perspective in their construction. Interested in the current boom of memory (as a central element for the design of public policies, a source and method for the social sciences, a working topic for artistic and cultural practices, among others), we designed an editorial aimed at analyzing how memory, in its exercise of constructing the past, can potentially contribute to the recognition of experiences and realities hidden within the framework of a patriarchal culture. However, and as a complement to this boom, we warn of the need for critical analysis of its possible effects on reality, its risks and excesses, as well as the discourses surrounding its management
