Quadripartite continuous-variable entanglement via quadruply concurrent downconversion
We investigate an intra-cavity coupled down-conversion scheme to generate
quadripartite entanglement using concurrently resonant nonlinearities. We
verify that quadripartite entanglement is present in this system by calculating
the output fluctuation spectra and then considering violations of optimized
inequalities of the van Loock-Furusawa type. The entanglement characteristics
both above and below the oscillation threshold are considered. We also present
analytic solutions for the quadrature operators and the van Loock-Furusawa
correlations in the undepleted pump approximation.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
Very weak electron-phonon coupling and strong strain coupling in manganites
The coupling of the manganite stripe phase to the lattice and to strain has
been investigated via transmission electron microscopy studies of
polycrystalline and thin film manganites. In polycrystalline \PCMOfiftwo a
lockin to in a sample with has been observed for the first
time. Such a lockin has been predicted as a key part of the Landau CDW theory
of the stripe phase. Thus it is possible to constrain the size of the
electron-phonon coupling in the CDW Landau theory to between 0.04% and 0.05% of
the electron-electron coupling term. In the thin film samples, films of the
same thickness grown on two different substrates exhibited different
wavevectors. The different strains present in the films on the two substrates
can be related to the wavevector observed via Landau theory. It is demonstrated
that the the elastic term which favours an incommensurate modulation has a
similar size to the coupling between the strain and the wavevector, meaning
that the coupling of strain to the superlattice is unexpectedly strong.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure
The structure of intercalated water in superconducting NaCoO1.37DO: Implications for the superconducting phase diagram
We have used electron and neutron powder diffraction to elucidate the
structural properties of superconducting \NaD. Our measurements show that our
superconducting sample exhbits a number of supercells ranging from
to , but the most predominant one, observed also in the neutron
data, is a double hexagonal cell with dimensions \dhx. Rietveld analysis
reveals that \deut\space is inserted between CoO sheets as to form a
layered network of NaO triangular prisms. Our model removes the need to
invoke a 5K superconducting point compound and suggests that a solid solution
of Na is possible within a constant amount of water .Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
A qualitative analysis of goals set by foster carers seeking support for their child’s emotional well-being
The needs of foster carers are complex as children in their care often present with complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. Previous studies have examined foster carers’ perceptions of the unmet needs of the children in their care but there is a lack of knowledge regarding carers’ own goals when seeking professional help. The present study seeks to fill this gap by examining the goals that carers who are looking after children with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties set at the start of an intervention, the Reflective Fostering Programme, designed to support them. Twenty-six foster carers were asked to complete a Goal-Based Outcome Measure (GBOM) before starting the programme. Qualitative content analysis revealed five main categories of goals. Three were child focused (child’s relationships, challenging behaviours and emotions) and two were foster carer focused (personal goals and goals related to participating in the programme). By understanding the types of goals meaningful to foster carers, interventions can be developed to better target their specific needs and allow outcome measures to be more closely aligned to their goals. Results are discussed in terms of implications for the development and evaluation of interventions to support foster carers and the children they look after
Analysis of a continuous-variable quadripartite cluster state from a single optical parametric oscillator
We examine the feasibility of generating continuous-variable multipartite
entanglement in an intra-cavity quadruply concurrent downconversion scheme that
has been proposed for the generation of cluster states by Menicucci \textit{et
al.} [Physical Review Letters \textbf{101}, 130501 (2008)]. By calculating
optimized versions of the van Loock-Furusawa correlations we demonstrate
genuine quadripartite entanglement and investigate the degree of entanglement
present. Above the oscillation threshold the basic cluster state geometry under
consideration suffers from phase diffusion. We alleviate this problem by
incorporating a small injected signal into our analysis. Finally, we
investigate squeezed joint operators. While the squeezed joint operators
approach zero in the undepleted regime, we find that this is not the case when
we consider the full interaction Hamiltonian and the presence of a cavity. In
fact, we find that the decay of these operators is minimal in a cavity, and
even depletion alone inhibits cluster state formation.Comment: 26 pages, 12 figure
Strain control of superlattice implies weak charge-lattice coupling in LaCaMnO
We have recently argued that manganites do not possess stripes of charge
order, implying that the electron-lattice coupling is weak [Phys Rev Lett
\textbf{94} (2005) 097202]. Here we independently argue the same conclusion
based on transmission electron microscopy measurements of a nanopatterned
epitaxial film of LaCaMnO. In strain relaxed regions, the
superlattice period is modified by 2-3% with respect to the parent lattice,
