The hypothesis of an equalization of sectorial rates of profit has an important role to play in the economic theory. Though it has been formulated a long time ago (A. Smith, D. Ricardo…), now as a definite principle (with its mechanism) and now as a postulate, it is however contradicted by statistical observation. There have been various answers to this problem. We propose to study it in a new light, emphasizing that the formulation of this "law" as well as its empirical evidence are registered within the traditional framework of activity sector. Then, we have to think about the latter as it has a fundamental role to play. But the activity sector is no longer a homogeneous category, for firms can considerably differentiate the conditions (technological and financial ones) of capital allowance, independently of any reference to the notion of product. Then, we must think over this problem, no longer wondering where this allowance of the capital is produced, but how. This brings us to propose the elaboration of a new classification of the firms, that leads to an analysis at an "intermediary level" other than the insufficient level that results from the division of the economy into activity sectors.

International audiencePURPOSE: This study assessed the underexplored factors associated with significant improvement in mothers' mental health during postpartum inpatient psychiatric care. METHODS: This study analyzed clinical improvement in a prospective cohort of 869 women jointly admitted with their infant to 13 psychiatric Mother-Baby Units (MBUs) in France between 2001 and 2007. Predictive variables tested were: maternal mental illness (ICD-10), sociodemographic characteristics, mental illness and childhood abuse history, acute or chronic disorder, pregnancy and birth data, characteristics and mental health of the mother's partner, and MBU characteristics. RESULTS: Two thirds of the women improved significantly by discharge. Admission for 25% was for a first acute episode very early after childbirth. Independent factors associated with marked improvement at discharge were bipolar or depressive disorder, a first acute episode or relapse of such an episode. Schizophrenia, a personality disorder, and poor social integration (as measured by occupational status) were all related to poor clinical outcomes. DISCUSSION: Most women improved significantly while under care in MBUs. Our results emphasize the importance of the type of disease but also its chronicity and the social integration when providing postpartum psychiatric care

[eng] The aim of the paper is to survey two kinds of explanation for multinational firms. The first is developed in the context of the "old" industrial economics, based on entry barriers and transaction costs, the second in the frame of the "new" industrial economics, based on strategic comportment. It seems that the two approaches fail to explain empirical facts.

Entrepreneur and profits in Mill's and Marshall's principles Michel Rainelli In J. S. Mill's and A. Marshall's Principles, theories of profits are very similar ; profits are the sum of three parts : interest, risks and earnings of management. The last part bring entrepreneur into profits : divergences between rates of profits are due to differences in manager's abilities. The result is that competition can't reduce the divergences, in opposition to Classic school. Rainelli Michel.
