Photoproduction of Ļ€0 on Hydrogen With CLAS From 1.1 GeV - 5.45 GeV Using e+e ā€“Ī³ Decay

    Get PDF
Photoproduction of the Ļ€0 meson was studied using the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility using tagged incident photon energies spanning the range EĪ³ = 1.1 GeV - 5.45 GeV. The measurement is performed on a liquid hydrogen target in the reaction Ī³p ā†’ pe +eā€“(Ī³). The final state of the reaction is the sum of two subprocesses for Ļ€0 decay, the Dalitz decay mode of Ļ€0 ā†’ e +eā€“Ī³ and conversion mode where one photon from Ļ€0 ā†’ Ī³Ī³ decay is converted into a e+e ā€“ pair. This specific final state reaction avoided limitations caused by single prompt track triggering, while the span of incident photon energies allowed for measurements of Ļ€0 photoproduction to a domain never systematically measured before. We report the measurement of the Ļ€0 differential cross sections dĻƒ/dĪ© and dĻƒ/dt. The angular distributions agree well with the SAID parametrization for incident beam energies below 3 GeV. As a result with this new data, the Ļ‡2/p.d.f. of the global fit in the SAID parametrization improved to 3.1 from 3.7. For incident beam energies greater than 3 GeV a comparison of a model based on Generalized Parton Distributions (GPD) with experimental data shows significant discrepancy, requiring further model developments to describe the data

Leadership considerations for executive vice chairs, new chairs, and chairs in the 21st century.

The need to fulfill academic goals in the context of significant economic challenges, new regulatory requirements, and ever-changing expectations for leadership requires continuous adaptation. This paper serves as an educational resource for emerging leaders from the literature, national leaders, and other ā€œbest practicesā€ in the following domains: 1. Mentorship; 2. Faculty Development; 3. Promotion; 4. Demonstrating value in each of the academic missions; 5. Marketing and communications; and 6. Barrier

Grief consolation in eulogy rhetoric: An integrative framework

    Get PDF
Abstract OnlyIn an ever more deadly and uncertain world, rhetoric honoring the deceased is still examined as though that was its primary, if not only, function. Some critics of eulogia also identify the consolation of survivors but rarely define it precisely or analyze its rhetorical execution. This article introduces a framework for the critical analysis and production of eulogia that draws from comforting mechanisms recognized in the interpersonal communication, social psychology, and grief therapy literatures. Self-disclosure, problem-focused coping, positive reappraisal, and the affirmation and continuation of relationships with the deceased are shown to inform criticism of five contemporary eulogies. Challenges inherent in the invention and appreciation of eulogy rhetoric are thus illuminated and addressed

ā€œLetā€™s (Not) Talk About Thatā€: Bridging the Past Sexual Experiences Taboo to Build Healthy Romantic Relationships

Research has shown that individuals in romantic relationships often avoid discussing past sexual experiences. In order to ascertain whether past relationships and/or past sexual experiences were considered to be ā€œtaboo,ā€ 102 individuals involved in romantic relationships were asked to list the topics that they were reluctant to discuss with their partners. As past relationships and past sexual experiences were reported as topics often avoided, responses to an open-ended questionnaire were coded to determine: (1) the reasons individuals give for avoiding talk about past sexual experiences, and (2) whether there are sex differences in how often those reasons appeared in responses. In descending order of prevalence, respondents reported that they tend to avoid discussing past sexual experiences due to four main concerns: (1) belief that the past should be kept in the past, (2) identity issues, (3) perceived threats to their relationships, and (4) emotionally-upsetting feelings. Men and women displayed extreme similarity in the frequency with which they indicated particular reasons for avoidance. Data-inspired suggestions for individuals hoping to elicit discussion of past sexual experiences with partners are offered

Fallen heroes, lifted hearts: Consolation in contemporary presidential eulogia

Abstract OnlyA. D. Kunkel and M. R. Dennis (2003) demonstrated that examining texts for identified components of eulogia, as drawn from the comforting and social support paradigms found in psychology and communication literatures (i.e., credibility establishment, praise for the deceased, self-disclosure of emotion, prescriptions for problem-focused coping, promotion of positive reappraisal for emotion-focused coping, and the affirmation and continuation of relationships), is critical to understanding eulogistic phenomena. Analysis of three Presidential eulogies, as informed by the components, reveals calls for unity in President Ronald Wilson Reagan's 1986 eulogy for the Challenger space shuttle crew, suggestions for action in President William Jefferson Clinton's 1995 eulogy for USS Cole sailors, and positive reappraisal within astronautsā€™ quotes offered by President George Walker Bush during his 2003 eulogy for the Columbia space shuttle crew

A mass spectrometric and quantum chemical study of the vaporisation of lead monoxide in a flow of gaseous arsenic and antimony trioxides

    Get PDF
Mass spectrometric studies of the vapours over solid lead oxide in a flow of gaseous arsenic and antimony trioxides were conducted. The following ions of the ternary oxides were detected: Pb3As2O6+, Pb3AsO4+, PbAs2O4+, PbAsO2+, PbSb2O4+, and PbSbO2+. The origin of these species produced by the ionisation and/or fragmentation of ternary gaseous oxides is discussed. The PbAs2O4 species was undoubtedly identified by the determination of the appearance energy. Presumably, the Pb3As2O6 and PbSb2O4 species also existed in the gas phase. Thermodynamic data for the ternary oxides were obtained experimentally by means of a mass spectrometric Knudsen-cell method and were confirmed by quantum chemical calculations
