Sicurezza nelle reti: utilizzo di architetture multi-core per il monitoraggio del traffico IP
The IP packet capture activity has always assumed great importance in the computer networks security. It's daily used in fact to monitor and analyze the IP traffic passing through a computer networks with the purpose to identify anomalous behaviors that could be associated with security problems. The new infrastructures for high throughput networks, also used in small or medium sized local networks, have made this activity more and more difficult showing some limits of the most recent multi-core capture systems used today. This paper has the purpose to describe the main technologies used in a generic capture system, to identify its possible limits, to diagnose its causes and to discover the possible solutions that must be adopted
A combined citizen science-modelling approach for NO2 assessment in Torino urban agglomeration
The #CHEARIATIRA citizen science campaign was developed in February 2019 in Torino (western part of the Po Valley megacity region). The aim of the campaign was public engagement with measuringNO2 concentrations in an urban area that often exceeds air quality standards. NO2 diffusion tubes were employed by citizens under our supervision. In this paper, we present the main outcomes of a combined approach between the #CHEARIATIRA campaign and the urban dispersion model SIRANE. The results were validated against the available public Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS). The citizens' passive samplers and the modelled data show a good response in central districts both during the campaign interval and by annual projection. Traffic hotspots and sensitive receptors (schools, hospital) have high concentrations of NO2. Most of the study area (83% of the tubes) is subject to an increased risk of premature death according to epidemiological literature
Monitoring the threat of unintentional transgene flow into maize gene banks and breeding materials
The use of transgenic crops is steadily increasing around the world,
led by soybean (based on total area) and maize (in terms of total
number of countries). Transgenic maize is grown in at least 17
countries across four continents: Africa, America, Asia and Europe. The
comprehensive global spread of transgenic maize has significant
implications for organizations involved in germplasm conservation and
genetic enhancement; particularly as some countries require a GMO-free
declaration when receiving shipments of maize germplasm. This article
describes the protocol used by the International Maize and Wheat
Improvement Center (CIMMYT) for monitoring unintentional transgene flow
in maize genebank and breeding plots. The protocol is based on
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) markers for detecting specific
recombinant DNA sequences in bulked samples collected from sentinel
plots. To date, no unintentional transgene flow has been detected in
CIMMYT fields of maize genebank accessions or breeding materials
