On the t-Term Rank of a Matrix

For t a positive integer, the t-term rank of a (0,1)-matrix A is defined to be the largest number of 1s in A with at most one 1 in each column and at most t 1s in each row. Thus the 1-term rank is the ordinary term rank. We generalize some basic results for the term rank to the t-term rank, including a formula for the maximum term rank over a nonempty class of (0,1)-matrices with the the same row sum and column sum vectors. We also show the surprising result that in such a class there exists a matrix which realizes all of the maximum terms ranks between 1 and t.Comment: 18 page

    Cyclic Matching Sequencibility of Graphs

    Get PDF
We define the cyclic matching sequencibility of a graph to be the largest integer dd such that there exists a cyclic ordering of its edges so that every dd consecutive edges in the cyclic ordering form a matching. We show that the cyclic matching sequencibility of K2mK_{2m} and K2m+1K_{2m+1} equal m1m-1

Expanding Rural Lending Through Merchant-Credit Projects

    Get PDF
Merchant-credit projects offer the potential of providing short-term stop-gap informal loans to small borrowers in countries where the formal financial system is in disarray and where weak property rights hinder formal finance. Credit projects involving the Agricultural Bank of Malaysia, contract or bridge lending in the Dominican Republic, the PNN Scheme in Sri Lanka, and the NAPP program in the Philippines are briefly reviewed. The advantages and weaknesses of merchant-credit projects are summarized

Tanaidacea (Crustacea: Peracardia) of the Gulf of Mexico. VII. Atlantapseudes lindae, N. Sp. (Apseudidae) from the Continental Slope of the Northern Gulf of Mexico

    Get PDF
During 1983 through 1985, 53 specimens of Atlantapseudes lindae, new species, were collected in box core samples taken on the continental slope in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Atlantapseudes lindae can be distinguished from the only other member of the genus, A. nigrichela Băcescu, 1978 by several characters, including the length of the squama of antenna 2, which is no longer than the third peduncular segment, and the absence of anterolateral spines on pereonites 1-2 of females and 1-6 on males. The diagnosis for genus Atlantapseudes Băcescu, 1978 is amended to include the presence of sexually dimorphic chelae and first antennae in fully developed males

Evaluation of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Enrichment Using In Situ Enclosure Bags with Temporal Indigenous Phytoplankton Populations

    Get PDF
An in situ experimental procedure and protocol was developed to evaluate nitrate and phosphate enrichment using isolated indigenous phytoplankton assemblages during different seasons. Results of the comparison of the parameters-temperature, pH, alkalinity, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen between the open water and enclosed systems indicated that there was no significant influence of the physicochemical factors on the isolated biological processes. Growth responses were measured by turbidity, biomass and chlorophyll-a, the most sensitive being chlorophyll-a. Additions of nitrate and phosphate were added in known concentrations and in different magnitudes of concentration based upon ambient conditions and ratio. During the fall, phosphorus influenced phytoplankton growth, whereas in the spring both nutrients effect growth response equally, and in the summer nitrate had the greatest influence. Based upon the results of these experiments a sampling regime for physicochemical parameters and growth response is recommended
