A Comparison and Strategy of Semantic Segmentation on Remote Sensing Images
In recent years, with the development of aerospace technology, we use more
and more images captured by satellites to obtain information. But a large
number of useless raw images, limited data storage resource and poor
transmission capability on satellites hinder our use of valuable images.
Therefore, it is necessary to deploy an on-orbit semantic segmentation model to
filter out useless images before data transmission. In this paper, we present a
detailed comparison on the recent deep learning models. Considering the
computing environment of satellites, we compare methods from accuracy,
parameters and resource consumption on the same public dataset. And we also
analyze the relation between them. Based on experimental results, we further
propose a viable on-orbit semantic segmentation strategy. It will be deployed
on the TianZhi-2 satellite which supports deep learning methods and will be

Cognitive architectures as Lakatosian research programmes: two case studies
Cognitive architectures - task-general theories of the structure and function of the complete cognitive system - are sometimes argued to be more akin to frameworks or belief systems than scientific theories. The argument stems from the apparent non-falsifiability of existing cognitive architectures. Newell was aware of this criticism and argued that architectures should be viewed not as theories subject to Popperian falsification, but rather as Lakatosian research programs based on cumulative growth. Newell's argument is undermined because he failed to demonstrate that the development of Soar, his own candidate architecture, adhered to Lakatosian principles. This paper presents detailed case studies of the development of two cognitive architectures, Soar and ACT-R, from a Lakatosian perspective. It is demonstrated that both are broadly Lakatosian, but that in both cases there have been theoretical progressions that, according to Lakatosian criteria, are pseudo-scientific. Thus, Newell's defense of Soar as a scientific rather than pseudo-scientific theory is not supported in practice. The ACT series of architectures has fewer pseudo-scientific progressions than Soar, but it too is vulnerable to accusations of pseudo-science. From this analysis, it is argued that successive versions of theories of the human cognitive architecture must explicitly address five questions to maintain scientific credibility
Chandra observations of Cygnus OB2
Cygnus OB2 is the nearest example of a massive star forming region,
containing over 50 O-type stars and hundreds of B-type stars. We have analyzed
two Chandra pointings in Cyg OB2, detecting ~1700 X-ray sources, of which ~1450
are thought to be members of the association. Optical and near-IR photometry
has been obtained for ~90% of these sources from recent deep Galactic plane
surveys. We have performed isochrone fits to the near-IR color-magnitude
diagram, deriving ages of 3.5(+0.75,-1.0) and 5.25(+1.5,-1.0) Myrs for sources
in the two fields, both with considerable spreads around the pre-MS isochrones.
The presence of a second population in the region, somewhat older than the
present-day O-type stars, has been suggested by other authors and fits with the
ages derived here. The fraction of sources with inner circumstellar disks (as
traced by the K-band excess) is found to be very low, but appropriate for a
population of age ~5 Myrs. We measure the stellar mass functions and find a
power-law slope of Gamma = -1.09 +/- 0.13, in good agreement with the global
mean value estimated by Kroupa. A steepening of the mass function at high
masses is observed and we suggest this is due to the presence of the previous
generation of stars that have lost their most massive members. Finally,
combining our mass function and an estimate of the radial density profile of
the association suggests a total mass of Cyg OB2 of ~30,000 Msun, similar to

This study surveys 200 years of London’s weather and its public reporting in newspapers to reveal some of the recurring modes of reporting and linguistic styles that are used to describe and make sense of the human experience of weather. These modes include: the cultural anxieties prompted by ‘unusual weather’; the visual dramas of ‘great storms’; the weather as culpable; and bench-marking extreme weather. Even as the broader processes and patterns of our climate are changing, at the level of the everyday the human and cultural experience of weather remains remarkably familiar
Seagrass can mitigate negative ocean acidification effects on calcifying algae
The ultimate effect that ocean acidification (OA) and warming will have on the physiology of calcifying algae is still largely uncertain. Responses depend on the complex interactions between seawater chemistry, global/local stressors and species-specific physiologies. There is a significant gap regarding the effect that metabolic interactions between coexisting species may have on local seawater chemistry and the concurrent effect of OA. Here, we manipulated CO2 and temperature to evaluate the physiological responses of two common photoautotrophs from shallow tropical marine coastal ecosystems in Brazil: the calcifying alga Halimeda cuneata, and the seagrass Halodule wrightii. We tested whether or not seagrass presence can influence the calcification rate of a widespread and abundant species of Halimeda under OA and warming. Our results demonstrate that under elevated CO2, the high photosynthetic rates of H. wrightii contribute to raise H. cuneata calcification more than two-fold and thus we suggest that H. cuneata populations coexisting with H. wrightii may have a higher resilience to OA conditions. This conclusion supports the more general hypothesis that, in coastal and shallow reef environments, the metabolic interactions between calcifying and non-calcifying organisms are instrumental in providing refuge against OA effects and increasing the resilience of the more OA-susceptible species.E.B. would like to thank the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoas de Nível Superior (CAPES) for Masters

Definitions and clinical guidance on the enteral dependence component of the avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder diagnostic criteria in children
The aim of the current paper is to offer definitive guidance on weaning children who are reliant on nasogastric/gastrostomy feeding tubes. To date, no internationally recognised definitions or principles for interventions exist and clinics have been reliant on creating their own unique intervention criteria. To achieve the aim, two goals are set out within the current paper. The first goal was to definitively define the process of tube weaning. In order to achieve this, both tube dependency and oral eating also required definitions. It is necessary for these two additional definitions to fully understand the process of tube weaning and the transition that the child is making within these clinical interventions. The second goal of this paper was to propose a set of minimum measurement criteria within a tube weaning protocol so that different clinical practices and perspectives may be measured accurately. This would then allow outcomes from different clinical services to be compared for efficacy. The culmination of this paper is a set of five core principles that should govern clinics that adhere to the auspices of evidence-based practice. These principles, if adopted, will provide the basis of a set of internationally recognised criteria within this field of paediatric gastroenterology
