The current study aimed at conducting an educational survey on the mitral valve using advanced technologies eSie ValveĀ® and Q-Lab in echocardiography machines and also those mitral valve geometrical parameter measurements that can be easily calculated with MATLAB software offline in a personal computer as an echocardiographic desk for further information and recommendation before mitral valve repairs or other treatments

Assessment of the Left Ventricular Deformable Indices (Strain Components) in Different Echocardiography Systems

This Article provides simplified, easy-to-understand descriptions of the echocardiographic software used in conjunction with different echocardiography machines, such as those from Toshiba, Philips, GE, and Siemens, and explains how these sophisticated systems can best be used to exploit fully their ability to deliver more precise diagnoses and assist in treatment choice and follow-up. A variety of applications are covered, with presentation of algorithms and highlighting of tips and tricks. It will be of value for cardiologists, other interested clinicians, those pursuing fellowships in echocardiography, and sonographers; it will also be highly relevant for biomedical engineers, bio-mathematicians, computer scientists, and researchers in medical physics. There would be enormous clinical benefits of any non-invasive technique to estimate the true level of wall abnormal motions. Strain and strain rate are deformation measures. If different components of an object have different velocities, the object shape may be changed. In this article, we mentioned the left ventricular 2- dimensional strain in normal hearts for each different type of strain methods from 5 echocardiography machines and we have also introduced MATLAB software as an echocardiography desk

Evaluation of surface expression of platelet markers and left ventricle ejection fraction in patients with coronary artery disease

Background and Aims: Surface expression of platelet markers enhanced during ischemic events and appear to play an important role in myocardial repair. Stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) is one of these factors which its effects Mediated through CXCR4 and CXCR7 receptors. In our study we are going to determine the the surface expressions of platelet markers and the changes of left ventricle ejection fraction in patients with coronary artery disease. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study measured the superficial expression of platelet indices (SDF-1R, CXCR4, and CXCR7) and its association with the changes of the left ventricle ejection fraction in patients with coronary artery disease who have referred to Taleghani Hospital, Tehran in 2016-2018. Results: Among all patients referred to Taleghani Hospital with symptoms of coronary artery disease, 57 patient had inclusion criteria. this study demonstrated that mean SDF1 and CXCR4 level were respectively 1.1 and 2.3 which there were significant difference between those with severe EF reduction comparing to the rest of the groups (respectively P<0.002 & P<0.004 ). The mean CXCR7 value of all patients was 3.5 (SD= 0.27) and showed a significant difference in patients with severe (6) and low (4.7) ejection fraction reductions compared to those with moderate (2.5) and normal (2.8) ejection fraction reductions (P<0.009). &nbsp

Endovascular treatment of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm: a case report

Abstract

Introduction

Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms usually present in elderly patients with serious renal, pulmonary, cerebral, or cardiac comorbidities that pose a great challenge to the attending surgeon. Endovascular techniques for the treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysms are not yet widely used due to limitations associated with them, such as spinal and visceral ischemia.

Case presentation

An 87-year-old Caucasian man with a symptomatic Crawford type I thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm was treated successfully with a long tube stent graft using endovascular techniques and without any complication in follow-up examinations. The stent was placed distal to the left subclavian artery, and proximal to the celiac axis.

Conclusion

The use of endovascular stents for long segment thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms needs to undergo clinical investigation to determine whether this procedure decreases morbidity and mortality rates.</p

Review of Laser Therapy in Cardiovascular Diseases: Laser in cardiovascular diseases

    No full text
Introduction: In recent years, there has been a rise in laser therapy for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Methods: This paper attempted to represent recent advances in laser therapy in cardiovascular tissue repairs. Three standard techniques have been explicitly described herein cardiovascular tissue repairs by laser. Results: One of the advantages of using laser therapy in cardiovascular diseases is its non-invasiveness. It also reduces the treatment process pain and prevents massive surgical incisions and bleeding throughout the operation. Laser therapy can ensure an alternative method to treat the ischemic region of the heart and creating anastomosis of vessels. Conclusion: With professional technologies and endoscopic surgery method development, the role of using lasers has become much more precise and more transparent in cardiovascular diseases. Intracardiac Shunts and Role of Tissue Doppler Imaging in Diagnosis and Discrimination

    No full text
Background: We sought to assess right ventricular (RV) systolic and diastolic functions via tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) in order to discriminate right-to-left (bidirectional) from left-to-right intracardiac shunts. Methods: A tissue Doppler velocity study via Doppler echocardiography was performed in 20 patients with left-to-right shunt (without evidence of significant pulmonary hypertension) and 20 patients with right-to-left shunt or bidirectional shunt (with significant pulmonary hypertension) or EisenmengerĪ„s complex and 20 healthy subjects as the control group. RV myocardial performance index (MPI), S wave velocity, E wave velocity, isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT), and isovolumic contraction time (IVCT) from the lateral tricuspid annulus were measured using TDI. Results: In the patients with left-to-right shunt, the tissue Doppler parameters showed higher S-wave, peak systolic(Sa)/early contraction(Ea) , Sa/IVRT, and Sa/IVCT values; and in the patients with right-to-left or bidirectional shunt tissue, the Doppler parameters showed higher MPI and MPI/Sa value with a high specificity and sensitivity. Conclusion: We conclude that an evaluation of MPI, S wave, E wave, IVRT, and IVCT via tissue Doppler echocardiography is a useful index for the discrimination of right-to-left from left-to-right and bidirectional intracardiac shunts
