    Education and the Black Community: What are we missing?

    Teachers of Color in the state of Tennessee comprise only 13% of overall teachers in the workforce*. As Tennessee\u27s student body becomes increasingly diverse, recruiting and retaining teachers of color, as well as providing cultural relevant content, is paramount. This session will provide an interactive presentation that will allow community voices to shape education priorities among Black and Brown students in Knox County Schools. Led by Knox County School Board Member, Evetty Satterfield and 2018 Teacher of the Year, Katherine Mencer, participants will engage in an action lab. Action labs are problem solving platforms that engage citizens to create solutions for a specific issue. Teachers of Color shortage and culturally related content are two areas we will address in our lab. Best solutions to the issue will be shared with Knox County Schools Superintendent, Bob Thomas

    IN SEARCH OF A CLEARER GROWTH PATH FOR CROATIAN ENTERPRISES

    The purpose of this paper is to foster realistic reflections on the importance of stimulating research and development activities within national enterprises employing over 250 employees, based on the experience of prominent individuals, members of the top management team within these enterprises. Within research of the growth of Croatian enterprises and thereby the national economy, one of the questions that should be asked is: "Does the implementation of innovations ensure the growth of Croatian enterprises and thus the economy?" This question arises from the existing structure of Croatian enterprises in terms of their distribution according to economic activity and concentration of the employees. In fact, both of these parameters are not favourable for economic growth. The research results, based on 67 validly completed questionnaires, generally indicate that business experience is gained over a longer period of time. Therefore, the impact of research and development and thus eventually innovation may result from incremental processes

    Izučavanje tržišta morskog brodarstva potrebno je zbog njegove kompleksnosti i dinamičnosti. To se tržište dijeli na tržišta linijskog, slobodnog i tankerskog brodarstva. Ta se tržišta međusobno razlikuju prema vremenskoj dinamici održavanja plovidbenih pravaca, vrstama dobara s obzirom na količinu jediničnih tereta, kemijskim svojstvima i načinu oblikovanja Jediničnih tereta, zatim vrstama i veličini jediničnih prijevoznih kapaciteta i organizaciji poslovanja, odnosno obliku poslovnog djelovanja na tržištu. Karakteristike morskog brodarstva su: tradicionalizam, integralnost, internacionalnost, heterogenost, tržišni oblici, protekcionizam, tehnički progres, međunarodne ekonomske integracije i konjunkurne oscilacije. Proučavanje nabrojenih karakteristika omogućuje pretpostavljanje utjecaja na poslovne odluke brodara. Odnosno, poznavanje karakteristika tržišta morskog brodarstva znatno pridonosi izradi svrsishodne strategije pojedinog brodara

    QUALITY ASSURANCE AND INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

    Visoko školstvo u Republici Hrvatskoj ima obvezu uskladiti se s principima Bolonjske deklaracije, a to zato što je Hrvatska 2001. potpisala tu Deklaraciju. Pritom se nailazi na potrebu da se zadovolje raznovrsni zahtjevi. Jedan je od njih i postojanje sustava osiguranja kvalitete. Tim sustavom država zadržava nadzor nad autonomijom sveučilišta, a razlog je za to razumljiv. Sveučilišta postaju autonomna u uvjetima kada država zadržava obvezu alimentiranja obrazovnih i znanstveno-istraživačkih programa. Dakle, autonomija nije samo pravo sveučilišta, već i odgovornost prema državi, poslodavcima, strukovnim udruženjima, studentima i njihovim roditeljima. Spremnost na uvođenje sustava osiguranja kvalitete na visokoškolskim ustanovama u Republici Hrvatskoj istražuje se uz pomoć upitnika koji sadrži 16 pitanja. Dobijeni rezultati upućuju na raznovrsnost shvaćanja kvalitete u visokome obrazovanju, različitost mišljenja o kvaliteti rada ustanova visokog obrazovanja i na mogućnosti primjene sustava osiguranja kvalitete.Želi li se uvesti i održavati sustav osiguranja kvalitete u visokome školstvu Republike Hrvatske potrebno je provesti organizacijske nadopune u ustanovama visokog obrazovanja i akciju izobrazbe u osiguranju kvalitete.Since Croatia signed the Bologna Declaration in 2001, Croatian Higher Education has had an obligation to comply with its principles and requirements, which includes the implementation of the quality assurance system. The system assures both the autonomy of different universities and the interest of stakeholders, including the government. Universities are autonomous when the state maintains an obligation to fund educational and research programs. This autonomy implies not only the rights of universities but also an obligation and responsibility towards the stakeholders (government, employers, professional associations, general public, students and their parents).Readiness for the implementation of the quality assurance system in Croatian higher education institutions can be measured by the proposed 16-item questionnaire. The achieved results indicate the diversity in understanding the term of quality in higher education, the diversity of opinion about quality of the institutions, and diversity of opinion about possibilities of implementing the quality assurance system. To introduce and implement the quality assurance system in Croatian higher education, it is necessary to make organizational changes within the HE institutions and carry out intensive training of staff, teachers and students

    Osiguranje kvalitete višedimenzionalan je proces, koji naglašava, uz disciplinu radnih postupaka, i sociološki utjecaj, a koji strateški pridonosi harmonizaciji odnosa zaposlenih unutar poduzeća i nenametljivo utječe na postizanje osobnog autoriteta svakog zaposlenog u odnosu na preostale zaposlenike. Uloga je poslodavstva najznačajnija, što nije ništa novo i autor smatra da je važno neprekidno je naglašavati.Focusing on quality insurance is one of the way of permanent orientation to rationalization of working procedures in each firm. That makes real presumption for creating competitive advantage as strategic determinant. Quality insurance is not free of charge, but it is the cheapest if taking a long-term view. As a matter of fact quality insurance is multidimensional process which stresses, along to working procedures discipline, sociological influence which strategically contributes to harmonization of relations of employees in a firm. Thus quality insurance discreetly influences achievement of personal authority of each of the employees in relation to other employees. Their individual working activities are completely transparent and exposed to loans of employees outside a narrow cycle of activity of the same firm. However the role of management is the most significant; this is nothing new but it is important to be stressed continuously
