    Whatsapp and Formulating Guidelines on Network Interaction during the Learning Process in the University Classroom

    This paper exhibits the preliminary results of a study, which aims to formulate theoretical and methodological guidelines for the configuration of network learning environments in university classrooms.聽Particularly, results about聽interaction聽levels and the correlation with the academic performance, at the postgraduate course of the Cooperative University of Colombia, integrated by 27 participants.聽The study has a varied approach, applied type, and descriptive scope.聽A face-to-face learning environment was designed that encourages interaction;聽One of the activities was in groups of 4 or 5 people, in which roles were assigned and WhatsApp was used as a communication platform聽.聽Through categories, an analysis of the content of the messages issued in WhatsApp groups was carried out, which allowed one to measure the聽interaction frequency and quality聽in a learning environment, and correlate it with academic performance.聽The results point towards two important聽considerations:聽i聽)聽although there is an important correlation between interaction and academic performance, there is nothing conclusive about it, and聽 ii)聽the correlation between academic performance and interaction is higher when it is calculated based on the participation frequency, than strictly the quality

En particular, se presentan los resultados sobre los niveles de interacci贸n y la correlaci贸n con el rendimiento acad茅mico, de un curso de postgrado de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, con 27 participantes. El estudio tiene un enfoque mixto, de tipo aplicado y alcance descriptivo. Se dise帽贸 un entorno de aprendizaje presencial que fomenta la interacci贸n; una de las actividades fue en grupos de 4 o 5 personas, en la cual se asign贸 roles y se utiliz贸 Whatsapp como medio de comunicaci贸n. A trav茅s de categor铆as se realiz贸 un an谩lisis de contenido de los mensajes emitidos en grupos de Whatsapp, que permiti贸 medir la frecuencia y calidad de la interacci贸n de una persona en un entorno de aprendizaje, y correlacionarlo con el rendimiento acad茅mico. Los resultados muestran dos consideraciones importantes: i) si bien existe una correlaci贸n importante entre interacci贸n y rendimiento acad茅mico, no es definitiva, y ii) la correlaci贸n entre rendimiento acad茅mico e interacci贸n es m谩s alta cuando se calcula con base en la frecuencia de participaci贸n, que cuando se hace con respecto a la calidad de la misma.Universidad Pablo de Olavid

    Incluye anexosSe definen lineamientos te贸ricos y metodol贸gicos del aprendizaje red, que es una propuesta educativa para la configuraci贸n y gesti贸n de entornos de aprendizaje a trav茅s del fomento de redes de interacci贸n activadas por tecnolog铆as digitales de informaci贸n y comunicaci贸n. La base te贸rica que soporta el aprendizaje red est谩 conformada por el desarrollo cognitivo (Piaget y Vigotsky, 1978), el aprendizaje conductual (Bandura, 1971), la interdependencia social (Johnson y Johnson, 1989), la sociedad red (Castells, 2009) y el conectivismo (Siemens, 2004). Todo ello se circunscribe dentro del enfoque de investigaci贸n es mixto, de tipo aplicado y alcance descriptivo y correlacional.
