    NORMAL COORDINATE TREATMENT OF THE COBALTICYANIDE ION, [Co(CN)6]−3[Co(CN)_{6}]^{-3}

    Author Institution: Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, University of CaliforniaInfrared and Raman data for K3Co(CN)6K_{3}Co(CN)_{6}, in the solid phase and in aqueous solution have been used in a normal coordinate treatment of the cobalticyanide ion. Data for the completely substituted 12C15N^{12} C^{15} N and 13C14N^{13} C^{14} N isotopic molecules were included. The isotopic shifts are shown to favor the assignment of the F10Co−C≡NF_{10} Co-C \equiv N deformation mode to a band of higher frequency than that of the F1uCo−CF_{1u} Co-C stretching mode. The general quadratic force field and the compliance constants will be discussed
