NORMAL COORDINATE TREATMENT OF THE COBALTICYANIDE ION, [Co(CN)6]−3[Co(CN)_{6}]^{-3}

Author Institution: Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, University of CaliforniaInfrared and Raman data for $K_{3}Co(CN)_{6}$, in the solid phase and in aqueous solution have been used in a normal coordinate treatment of the cobalticyanide ion. Data for the completely substituted $^{12} C^{15} N$ and $^{13} C^{14} N$ isotopic molecules were included. The isotopic shifts are shown to favor the assignment of the $F_{10} Co-C \equiv N$ deformation mode to a band of higher frequency than that of the $F_{1u} Co-C$ stretching mode. The general quadratic force field and the compliance constants will be discussed
