Emergence of skyrmion lattices and bimerons in chiral magnetic thin films with nonmagnetic impurities
Skyrmions are topologically protected field structures with particlelike characteristics that play important roles in several areas of science. Recently, skyrmions have been directly observed in chiral magnets. Here, we investigate the effects of pointlike nonmagnetic impurities on the distinct initial states (random or helical ones) and on the formation of the skyrmion crystal in a discrete lattice. Using Monte Carlo techniques, we have found that even a small percentage of spin vacancies present in the chiral magnetic thin film considerably affects the skyrmion order. The main effects of impurities are somewhat similar to thermal effects. The presence of these spin vacancies also induces the formation of bimerons in both the helical and skyrmion states. We also investigate how adjacent impurities forming a hole affect the skyrmion crystal
Electromagnetic structure and weak decay of pseudoscalar mesons in a light-front QCD-inspired model
We study the scaling of the meson mass splitting and the
pseudoscalar weak decay constants with the mass of the meson, as seen in the
available experimental data. We use an effective light-front QCD-inspired
dynamical model regulated at short-distances to describe the valence component
of the pseudoscalar mesons. The experimentally known values of the mass
splittings, decay constants (from global lattice-QCD averages) and the pion
charge form factor up to 4 [GeV/c] are reasonably described by the modelComment: 27 Pages, 7 eps figures, use revtex
Weak decay constant of pseudscalar meson in a QCD-inspired model
We show that a linear scaling between the weak decay constants of
pseudoscalar and the vector mesons masses is supported by the available
experimental data. The decay constant scale as (f_m
is decay constant and M_V vector meson ground state mass). This simple form is
justified within a renormalized light-front QCD-inpired model for
quark-antiquark bound states.Comment: 4 pages, use revtex style. To appear "Brazilian Journal of Physics

Particulate fouling: controlling processes and deposit structure
Fouling caused by a water-kaolin suspension in an annular heat exchanger was studied. Deposition seemed to be controlled by mass transfer for lower Reynolds numbers and by adhesion for higher Re. The data was satisfactorily described by the generalized model of Pinheiro. The relative cohesion of the deposits was measured using a rotating cylinder apparatus, which also helped in confirming the existence of a loose and a hard layer in the kaolin deposits.(undefined
