A Novel Method for Frequency Estimation Considering Instrument Transient Effect

    Get PDF
Large disturbances in power systems cause deviation in the frequency from the nominal value. Since the frequency is an important factor in the electrical network parameter measurements, it can cause malfunction of the protection system. In addition, Because of decaying DC and oscillatory components that introduced by CCVT in response of voltage variation during the fault occurrence, cause changes in the value of received voltage of primary side of CCVT. An improved least square method for estimating frequency is presented in this paper. In order to reduce the effect of this transient component, phasor estimation method has been improved by using the least square technique and utilizing knowledge of CCVT design. The capability of the proposed method was verified by several case studies generating signals in PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show the accuracy, speed and capability of the proposed metho

Impact of overlapping in the radio coverage areas of multiple Wi-Fi access points on detecting encounters

Understanding the potential role of Smartphones and other portable wireless devices as relay nodes in message dissemination and content delivery in Delay Tolerant and Opportunistic networks depend on the knowledge about patterns and the number of encounter events among mobile nodes. One of the main challenges for extracting encounters is overlapping in the radio coverage areas of nearby access points (APs). Data about the usage of Wi-Fi networks can be used to perform an analysis of encounters among mobile devices. A realistic estimation of the number of encounters among mobile nodes is now a big challenge. In this paper, the effects of overlapping of radio coverage area among multiple APs for extracting realistic encounters among mobile devices has been discussed, and also an analytical approach has been proposed for extracting realistic encounters from overlapping in the coverage areas of multiple nearby APs. A significant difference was observed between the number of encounters by considering and ignoring overlapping. Our study finds that Wi-Fi datasets are not reliable source to estimate the number of encounters when there are overlapping in radio coverage areas of multiple APs

A Secure-Coordinated Expansion Planning of Generation and Transmission Using Game Theory and Minimum Singular Value

In this paper a novel method have been proposed for expansion planning of generation and transmission that considered static security of the system such as voltage security margin And loadability limit. In the same study of expansion planning Security constraints of the system are neglected. In this study at the first step minimum singular value technique is used to evaluate voltage security margin and loadabolity limit, in order to select best bus for load incrimination. After it, in order to Supply the load, coordinated expansion planning of generation and transmission is needed, therefor the strategic interaction between transmission company (TransCo) and generation company (GenCo) for Transmission expansion planning (TEP) and generation expansion planning (GEP) in a competitive electricity market is proposed using Game Theory (GT).DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.668

Developing equations for estimating reference evapotranspiration in Australia

Quantifying reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is essential in water resources management. Although, many methods have been developed with different level of accuracy, in this study, two new equations were developed and optimized for estimating ET0 using Honey-Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO) algorithm. The firs eq. estimates ET0 from extraterrestrial radiation (Ra), relative humidity (RH) and mean daily temperature (Tmean), while the second uses the same parameters except that mean daily temperatures is replaced with maximum daily air temperature (Tmax). Both equations were developed using climatic data from eight weather stations in Western Australia and subsequently verified using data from ten sites across Australia. The estimated ET0 values from both equations versus the FAO56-Penman-Monteith have a coefficient of determination, R2, of larger than 0.96. Moreover, the performance of six commonly used methods of estimating ET0 including Hargreaves-Samani, Thornthwaith, Hamon, McGuinness-Bordne, Irmak and Jensen-Haise were assessed and the Hargreaves-Samani method performed better than others. An attempt was made to calibrate the Hargreaves-Samani equation; however, its overall performance did not improve and the two newly proposed equations are suggested to be used in Australi
