Flat-plate solar array project. Volume 8: Project analysis and integration
Project Analysis and Integration (PA&I) performed planning and integration activities to support management of the various Flat-Plate Solar Array (FSA) Project R&D activities. Technical and economic goals were established by PA&I for each R&D task within the project to coordinate the thrust toward the National Photovoltaic Program goals. A sophisticated computer modeling capability was developed to assess technical progress toward meeting the economic goals. These models included a manufacturing facility simulation, a photovoltaic power station simulation and a decision aid model incorporating uncertainty. This family of analysis tools was used to track the progress of the technology and to explore the effects of alternative technical paths. Numerous studies conducted by PA&I signaled the achievement of milestones or were the foundation of major FSA project and national program decisions. The most important PA&I activities during the project history are summarized. The PA&I planning function is discussed and how it relates to project direction and important analytical models developed by PA&I for its analytical and assessment activities are reviewed
Contamination from Skylab as determined from the solar coronagraph data
The white light solar coronagraph was one of the scientific telescopes flown on Skylab to study the sun. It studied the sun's atmosphere located from 0.5 to 5.0 solar radii above the sun's limb. Such a telescope is so sensitive to contamination around the spacecraft that it caused a major contamination abatement program to be initiated at the conception of Skylab. The coronagraph's data is analyzed showing the successfulness of that abatement program
Measuring research progress in photovoltaics
The role and some results of the project analysis and integration function in the Flat-plate Solar Array (FSA) Project are presented. Activities included supporting the decision-making process, preparation of plans for project direction, setting goals for project activities, measuring progress within the project, and the development and maintenance of analytical models
Many Body Problems with "Spin"-Related Contact Interactions
We study quantum mechanical systems with "spin"-related contact interactions
in one dimension. The boundary conditions describing the contact interactions
are dependent on the spin states of the particles. In particular we investigate
the integrability of -body systems with -interactions and point spin
couplings. Bethe ansatz solutions, bound states and scattering matrices are
explicitly given. The cases of generalized separated boundary condition and
some Hamiltonian operators corresponding to special spin related boundary
conditions are also discussed.Comment: 13 pages, Late
A trapped mercury 199 ion frequency standard
Mercury 199 ions confined in an RF quadrupole trap and optically pumped by mercury 202 ion resonance light are investigated as the basis for a high performance frequency standard with commercial possibilities. Results achieved and estimates of the potential performance of such a standard are given
