    Get PDF
The flipped or inverted classroom is a teaching model that requires students to view presentations and lecture videos before class and then use class time to work on assignments and active problem solving. This session will discuss the experiences of librarians at the University of St. Thomas Law Library and the University of South Dakota Libraries who have incorporated flipped classroom techniques into their library\u27s instruction program. During the session, the presenters will discuss preparing online lectures and other class materials for their flipped classroom, their student learning outcomes, and the benefits and drawbacks of using this particular teaching method. Following this presentation, participants will understand inverted instruction’s applicability to information literacy programs, appreciate its benefits for both students and librarians, and be able to apply inverted or flipped pedagogy to their own information literacy instruction

This session will discuss the experience of the librarians at the University of St. Thomas who have incorporated flipped classroom techniques into their library\u27s instruction program. The librarians will describe their two years of experience using this new format. They will explain what they learned during their first year (the good, the bad, and the really bad), the steps they took to improve the course the second year, and why others may want to implement this learning method into their information literacy instruction. The presenters will discuss best practices in preparing online lectures and other class materials for use in an inverted classroom. They will demonstrate the features of the new versions of Adobe Captivate (version 8) and Adobe Presenter (version 10) and explain the benefit of including video with Techsmith\u27s Camtasia software. Finally, they will evaluate student performance and the benefits and drawbacks of using this particular teaching method
