Distinguishing coherent atomic processes using wave mixing

We are able to clearly distinguish the processes responsible for enhanced low-intensity atomic Kerr nonlinearity, namely coherent population trapping and coherent population oscillations in experiments performed on the Rb D1 line, where one or the other process dominates under appropriate conditions. The potential of this new approach based on wave mixing for probing coherent atomic media is discussed. It allows the new spectral components to be detected with sub-kHz resolution, which is well below the laser linewidth limit. Spatial selectivity and enhanced sensitivity make this method useful for testing dilute cold atomic samples.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

LABEL USE AND IMPORTANCE RANKINGS FOR SELECTED MILK LABELING ATTRIBUTES

Results from a random telephone survey of households in 13 southern states suggest that 80 percent of respondents use labels when making food purchasing decisions. Label users are more likely to be college-educated, female, living in the East South Central Region, and to be childless or to have children between the ages of five and twelve. The Maluridae: Inferring Avian Biology and Evolutionary History from DNA Sequences

The Australo-Papuan fairy-wrens, emu-wrens and grasswrens comprise the passerine family Maluridae. They have long been known for their spectacular plumages, remarkable behavioural ecology and intriguing biogeography. The family has provided an ideal model with which to explore how phylogenetic and phylogeographic analyses of DNA-sequence data can inform understanding of evolutionary history and present-day biology. We review what has been learned of the phylogeny of the group and the phylogeographic history of individual species. We conclude that there is now a strong framework within which to pursue the remaining species-level taxonomic issues, and to extend ecological and behavioural studies into a new era of more detailed genetic questions such as the role of gene–environment interactions in adaptation. The K-band spectrum of the Cataclysmic Variable RXJ 0502.8+1624 (Tau 4)

We present the K-band spectrum of the cataclysmic variable RXJ 0502.8+1624 (Tau 4). The spectrum shows a broad, smooth hump, with no absorption lines from the secondary star visible. This result indicates that the infrared light of this system is dominated by cyclotron emission, and, in combination with the optical spectrum and X-ray properties, suggests that Tau 4 is a polar-type cataclysmic variable (CV). The system was chosen for study because the broadband JHK colours of Tau 4 are consistent with an L-type dwarf, suggesting that this system might harbour an elusive sub-stellar secondary star. Building an Education Program to Support the Demand for Qualified Health I.T. Professionals

The rapid adoption of standardized electronic medical records in clinical settings has created a demand for individuals with expertise in clinical health practices and Information Technology. High demand, high wage job opportunities are available for individuals entering the field with these interdisciplinary skills. Faculty members from the Applied Computing & Electronics and Health Professions Departments at UM have partnered with clinicians from regional health facilities and faculty members from the Department of Healthcare Informatics at Montana Tech in designing a cross-curricular program for educating individuals to support IT in clinical settings. This poster session will describe our progress in creating a new program of study and describe our successes and challenges at UM in educating individuals for careers in Health Information Technology
