Measuring fidelity of implementation using the survey of enacted curriculum

    Get PDF
The proper implementation of a curricular program is crucial in ensuring that the curricular content and learning intentions are delivered to students consistently and reliably. This being the case, it is essential that newly adopted curricular initiatives are evaluated for fidelity to the program\u27s original standards. Currently, state and federal regulations require teachers to use instructional programs that have been shown to be effective through scientifically based research (Stavin, 2003). to satisfy the scientifically based research requirement of NCLB, curricular programs undergo rigorous efficacy and effectiveness testing to ensure that the program\u27s standards are indeed valid. to further measure the validity, efficacy and effectiveness testing is often accompanied by fidelity of implementation (FOI) assessments (Century, Freeman, & Rudnick, 2008). FOI assessments serve to ensure that curricular programs are delivered to the standards prescribed by the original program model (Carroll et al., 2007; Century et al., 2008; Gresham, MacMillan, Boebe-Frankenberger, & Bocian, 2000; National Research Council, 2004 Reschly & Gresham, 2006; Schoenfeld, 2002)

Integrated 3D Printing of Robotic Structures and Circuits

Advances in upper limb prostheses have lowered the cost of prosthetic limbs, enabling access for a larger population of amputees. Other advancements, such as robotic prosthetics, enable amputees to more easily grasp objects at will. Some prostheses can even restore the sensation of touch to an amputee. Adding functionality to the prosthetic devices can also increase the price. 3D-printing offers a means to produce prostheses at a lower cost. Work has already been done to create a 3D-printed robotic prosthetics. This thesis presents preliminary research in the direction of a 3Dprinted, sensing prosthetic hand. One way of reducing cost and increasing reliability is to print conductive elements into the structural components of prostheses instead inserting or attaching them after fabrication. I use a new conductive PLA plastic, F-Electric TM, to print the paths for the sensor data to travel. In this thesis, I establish a set of procedures for mixed material printing, in which one of the materials is electrically conductive. I construct several pressure sensors utilizing the conductive material for the electrodes. The sensors nominally perform as expected and can be seen as a step towards a 3D-printed tactile sensing prosthetic hand

Immunogenicity and protective efficacy of the Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis attenuated mutants against challenge in a mouse model

Johne’s disease (JD), caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), results in serious economic losses worldwide especially in cattle, sheep and goats. To control the impact of JD on the animal industry, an effective vaccine with minimal adverse effects is urgently required. In order to develop an effective vaccine, we used allelic exchange to construct three mutant MAP strains, leuD, mpt64 and secA2. The mutants were attenuated in a murine model and induced cytokine responses in J774A.1 cell. The leuD mutant was the most obviously attenuated of the three constructed mutant strains. Our preliminary vaccine trial in mice demonstrated different levels of protection were induced by these mutants based on the acid-fast bacilli burden in livers and spleens at 8 and 12 weeks post challenge. In addition, vaccination with leuD mutant induced a high level of IFN- production and significant protective efficacy in both the reduction of inflammation and clearance of acid-fast bacilli, as compared with the mock vaccinated group
