Zygomatic implant penetration to the central portion of orbit: a case report

Background: Zygomatic implants have been proposed in literature for atrophic maxillary fixed oral rehabilitations. The aim of the present research was to evaluate, by a clinical and tomography assessment, a surgical complication of a zygomatic implant penetration to the orbit. Case presentation: A 56 year-old female patient was visited for pain and swelling in the left orbit after a zygomatic implant protocol. The orbit invasion of the zygomatic implant screw was confirmed by the CBCT scan. The patient was treated for surgical implant removal and the peri- and post-operative symptoms were assessed. No neurological complications were reported at the follow-up. The ocular motility and the visual acuity were well maintained. No purulent secretion or inflammatory evidence were reported in the post-operative healing phases. Conclusion: The penetration of the orbit during a zygomatic implant positioning is a surgical complication that could compromise the sight and movements of the eye. In the present case report, a zygomatic implant removal resulted in an uneventful healing phase with recovery of the eye functions

Editorial: Digitalisierung in der Forschung – Projekte österreichischer Hochschulen 2020–2024

Das Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung (BMBWF) hat 2020 im Rahmen der österreichweiten Ausschreibung „Vorhaben zur digitalen und sozialen Transformation in der Hochschulbildung“ insgesamt 50 Millionen Euro Fördermittel für 34 in einem Begutachtungsverfahren ausgewählte Projekte vergeben. Gefördert werden zukunftsweisende Kooperationsprojekte, die den Anspruch haben, innerhalb ihrer Laufzeit bis 2024 strukturverändernd in das Universitätssystem hineinzuwirken. Mit drei Sonderausgaben bietet die Zeitschrift ZFHE den Projekten die Möglichkeit, ihre Ergebnisse und Erfahrungen einem breiten (wissenschaftlichen) Publikum in einem Open-Access-Publikationsformat zu präsentieren. Die Sonderhefte widmen sich explizit den drei Handlungsfeldern der Digitalisierungsprojekte Lehre, Forschung, Verwaltung, wobei der Schwerpunkt dieser Ausgabe auf den forschungsbezogenen Projekten liegt

Der Cluster Forschungsdaten spielt eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Koordinierung des Zusammenspiels von Forschungsinformationssystemen, Forschungsdatenmanagement und digitalen Technologien/Infrastrukturen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf der Identifizierung von Synergien und Potenzialen für eine ressourcenoptimierte Zusammenarbeit zwischen den verschiedenen Forschungseinrichtungen des Landes. Darüber hinaus strebt der Cluster Forschungsdaten eine einheitliche Präsenz bei der Entwicklung und Zusammenführung von forschungsunterstützenden Services auf allen Ebenen des Forschungsdaten- und Forschungsinformations-Managements an. Implementation of a Wiki-based Information and Communication System for Academia Europaea

In recent years, online collaboration tools such as wikis have experienced a tremendous expansion. Their success and popularity is due to their simple and efficient content creation facilities. Moreover, the formatting syntax is basically easy to learn allowing users to easily create and edit web content and thus share knowledge with each other.Despite these advantages, the content creation process is still obscure if authors belong to a computer inexperienced user group. In this paper we present our experiences, challenges, and problems with a specific application of a wiki-based system called the Academia Europaea Information and Communication System. Furthermore, key solutions for bypassing user interaction barriers are discussed throughout this paper

Competencies of Data Stewards at Austrian Universities

Im April 2021 trafen sich die Projektmitarbeiter*innen von „FAIR Data Austria“ zu einem gemeinsamen Workshop, um die Kompetenzen der Data Stewards zu identifizieren und sie den drei Data Steward Modellen zuzuordnen. Diese Modelle wurden in einem vorangegangenen Workshop im Oktober 2020, im Hinblick auf den österreichischen Kontext, erarbeitet und bereits die Aufgaben und Profile der Data Stewards definiert. Im Vorfeld bereits erhobene Kompetenzen wurden von den Workshopteilnehmer*innen um neue Kompetenzen erweitert und/oder neue Aspekte hinzugefügt bzw. konkretisiert. In Gruppenarbeiten wurden die einzelnen Modelle mit den für sie passenden Kompetenzen aus dem Kompetenz-Pool gefüllt und im Plenum diskutiert. Die Data Stewards der TU Graz gaben Einblicke in ihre bisherige Arbeit und erklärten welche Kompetenzen ihrer Ansicht nach gebraucht bzw. gefordert werden. Mit den erarbeiteten Informationen sollen nun in einem nächsten Schritt geeignete Trainingsmodule erstellt werden, die maßgeschneidert auf die einzelnen Modelle angewendet werden können. Am Ende des Projekts soll ein Self-Assessment-Toolkit entstehen, welches alle Aspekte der Data Stewardship berücksichtigt und damit den Forschungseinrichtungen eine Orientierungshilfe gibt, welches Modell für sie am geeignetsten ist.In April 2021, the project members of „FAIR Data Austria“ met for a joint workshop to identify the competencies of data stewards and map them to predefined data steward models. These models and corresponding data steward profiles and tasks were developed in a previous workshop in October 2020 for the Austrian context. The workshop participants expanded competencies identified in advance to include new competencies, and/or new aspects were added or specified. In breakout sessions, the individual models were filled with the appropriate competencies from the competence pool and discussed in the plenary. Data stewards of TU Graz gave insights into their current work and explained which competencies, in their opinion, are needed. In the next step, suitable training modules will be established from the collected information tailored to the individual models. At the end of the project, a self-assessment toolkit will be developed that considers all aspects of data stewardship and provides guidance to research institutions on which model is most suitable for them

Training Opportunities for Data Stewards at Austrian Universities

Mit den Erkenntnissen aus zwei vorangegangenen Workshops, welche sich mit den Modellen für und Kompetenzen von Data Stewards beschäftigt hatten, trafen sich die „FAIR Data Austria“-Projektmitarbeiter*innen im Juli 2021 zu einem weiteren Workshop, um Ausbildungsangebote für Data Stewards an österreichischen Universitäten zu diskutieren. Zu diesem Zweck wurden vier Ausbildungsprogramme von jeweils einer teilnehmenden Person vorgestellt und im Anschluss in einzelnen Gruppen nach ihren Stärken und Schwächen, sowohl im Hinblick auf Eignung der gesamten Ausbildung für die Modelle als auch der einzelnen Schwerpunkte/Module innerhalb der Kurse, analysiert und bewertet. Dieser Workshop hat gezeigt, dass keiner der durchleuchteten Kurse geeignet ist, ein Modell vollständig abzudecken, wenn es darum geht, die gewünschten Kompetenzen zu vermitteln. Aus der Analyse resultieren Empfehlungen der Ausbildungsangebote für gewisse Modelle, welche nun gemeinsam mit den bisherigen Projektergebnissen in die Ausarbeitung eines Self-Assessment Tools zur Modellwahl für Forschungseinrichtungen fließen werden.With the conclusions from two previous workshops, which dealt with the models for and competencies of data stewards, the “FAIR Data Austria” project staff met again for another workshop in July 2021 to discuss training programmes for data stewards at Austrian universities. For this purpose, four training programmes were presented by one participant each and then analysed and evaluated in individual group work according to their strengths and weaknesses, both concerning the suitability of the entire training for the models and the individual focal points/modules within the courses. This workshop showed that none of the courses examined is suitable to cover a model completely when it comes to imparting the desired competencies. The analysis resulted in recommendations of the training courses for specific models, which will now be used together with the previous project results in developing a self-assessment tool for model selection for research institutions
