An Oversampling Mechanism for Multimajority Datasets using SMOTE and Darwinian Particle Swarm Optimisation

    Get PDF
Data skewness continues to be one of the leading factors which adversely impacts the machine learning algorithms performance. An approach to reduce this negative effect of the data variance is to pre-process the former dataset with data level resampling strategies. Resampling strategies have been seen in two forms, oversampling and undersampling. An oversampling strategy is proposed in this article for tackling multiclass imbalanced datasets. This proposed approach optimises the state-of-the-art oversampling technique SMOTE with the Darwinian Particle Swarm Optimization technique. This proposed method DOSMOTE generates synthetic optimised samples for balancing the datasets. This strategy will be more effective on multimajority datasets.  An experimental study is performed on peculiar multimajority datasets to measure the effectiveness of the proposed approach. As a result, the proposed method produces promising results when compared to the conventional oversampling strategies

    Get PDF
Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding is one of the most common problem encountered in gynaecology clinics. Assessment of endometrial pathology is recommended to rule out malignancy and premalignant conditions. Endometrial sampling can be done by Pipelle biopsy in outpatient units as well as by conventional dilatation and curettage in an operation theatre setup. Our study aims to find out the efficacy of office endometrial biopsy in terms of its sample adequacy, diagnostic accuracy and patient acceptability. Methods: 120 women presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding were included. A detailed history along with clinical examination findings are entered in the proforma. Ultrasound scan was done for all of them to identify pelvic pathology and endometrial thickness. Endometrial sampling was then done with Pipelle without anaesthesia. Histopathology reports are collected and sample adequacy and pattern were analysed. Patients are subsequently followed up for a period up to one year. Those who underwent hysterectomy are analysed for the endometrial pathology in hysterectomy specimen which is used as gold standard and compared with Pipelle endometrial sampling histopathology. Results: Sample adequacy for Pipelle biopsy was found to be 96%. Diagnostic accuracy for atypical hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma is 92.5% and 94% respectively. In hysterectomy specimens, carcinoma endometrium coexisted with atypical hyperplasia in 40% of cases with atypical hyperplasia in pipelle biopsy report. Conclusions: Thus, Pipelle endometrial biopsy is a cost-effective method for endometrial sampling except for focal lesions

Landing Page via Perceived Interactivity for Four Generational Cohorts

    Get PDF
Purpose- There are numerous online websites for buying products and services today. The challenge for marketers is to adopt the pull strategy, which attracts customers to the website and creates additional sales. This strategy can materialise only when innovation is brought in. A landing page on the web is considered to be the initial entry point for creating innovation. The current research paper emphasises the importance of creating a landing page for bringing innovation that caters to the four generations. Design/method /approach-400 responses were obtained equally from male and female respondents of each generational category except the alpha generation. Data was collected through a survey using Google forms. The structural equation model was used for analysis, and generational age was considered the moderator. Findings-There is a gradual shift in the generational pattern of perceiving and understanding technology to buy from the website. Being tech-savvy, in the case of generation Z the impact of perceived interactivity in creating purchase intention is very strong, followed by generation Y and generation X.  Practical implications-Age plays a huge role in understanding the landing page leading to better purchase intention. Hence it is evident that a landing page that caters to all generations unambiguously has to be considered by marketers to boost sales. Originality /value- The research results suggest that every generation seeks exclusivity on the landing page. So, generation-based perceived interactivity features on the landing page can attract all generations. Keywords: Landing Page, Perceived Interactivity, Generation X, Generation Y, Generation Z and Alpha Generation. Paper type-Research pape

Background: Preterm labour is a challenging complication encountered by obstetricians. The dictum prevention is better than cure well applies for preterm labour also, hence the importance of knowing the risk factors. Infection is one treatable, thus preventable risk factor. Methods: Prospective cohort study involving 75 antenatals at gestational age from 28 to 36+6 weeks.  After getting clearance from institutional ethical committee detailed history including history of UTI, excessive vaginal discharge, previous abortions and previous preterm labour and medical complications were collected. Two doses of injection Betamethasone 12 mg 24 hours apart were given for all patients. High vaginal swab was taken from all subjects and results analysed. Neonates are then followed up till discharge. Results: The incidences were higher in primigravidas compared to multiparas. Late preterms (34-36+6 weeks) were the majority in the group. PPROM was the major cause for late preterm births, this was followed by UTI and vaginal infections. Among the high vaginal swab 30.7% were culture positive. E Coli was the most common organism isolated followed by Staphylococcus Aureus, Klebsiella, and MRSA. Hyperbilirubinemia was the most common neonatal complication. Out of 7 neonatal deaths 6 were due to RDS and one was extremely preterm newborn. Women who delivered at least 24 hours after initiation of steroid were considered steroid covered group. Steroid covered group had lesser incidence of RDS with P value of 0.001which was statistically significant. Conclusions: UTI and vaginal infections were major risk factors for preterm labour and should be tackled antenatally. High vaginal swab should be taken for threatened preterm labour especially early preterm. Betamethasone administration causes a definite reduction in the incidence of RDS. Induce PPROM after 36 weeks to reduce late preterm complications provided there is no chorioamnionitis

    Get PDF
Objective: To explore and describe the Spiritually Augmented Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and its applications Method: The background on the need for incorporating spirituality in to therapy is considered. The SACBT, A meaning therapy for sustaining mental health and functional recovery is described with the cognitive components and behavioural components including the use of existential techniques in discovering meaning. The use of meditation, together with the validation and incorporation of the appropriate belief system of patients into their treatment is described. The use of rituals that are practised are incorporated in to the treatment in the form of a ritual monitoring sheet Result: Open randomised controlled studies have demonstrated the 16 session SACBT to be significantly beneficial in not only extinguishing hopelessness and despair, but are also found to improve treatment collaboration and reduce relapse thus increasing time to next relapse and improving functional recovery Conclusion: This meaning based therapy that incorporates appropriately a person belief system, which often might be the core that helps the patient and family cope, is an adjunct therapy that has been shown to improve function outcomes. Thus this evidence based adjunct therapy has an important and useful role in enhancing functional recovery and whole person care – an area that has had less attention given to in conventional psychiatric treatment

A Hybrid Resampling Approach for Multiclass Skewed Datasets and Experimental Analysis with Diverse Classifier Models

    Get PDF
In real-life scenarios, imbalanced datasets pose a prevalent challenge for classification tasks, where certain classes are heavily underrepresented compared to others. To combat this issue, this article introduces DOSAKU, a novel hybrid resampling technique that combines the strengths of DOSMOTE and AKCUS algorithms. By integrating both oversampling and undersampling methods, DOSAKU significantly reduces the imbalance ratio of datasets, enhancing the performance of classifiers. The proposed approach is evaluated on multiple models employing different classifiers, and the results demonstrate its superiority over existing resampling measures, making it an effective solution for handling class imbalance challenges. DOSAKU's promising performance is a substantial contribution to the field of imbalanced data classification, as it offers a robust and innovative solution for improving predictive model accuracy and fairness in real-world applications where imbalanced datasets are common
