    Overall Specialization and Income: Countries Diversity

In the last fifteen years, the growth of world trade coexisted with the tendency of countries to reduce the specialization of their export composition along the development path. On average, countries do not specialize, they diversify. Our semiparametric empirical analysis shows how this result is robust to the use of different statistical indexes used to measure trade specialization to the level of sectoral aggrega- tion and to the level of smoothing in the nonparametric term associated to income per capita.     An atypical case of trigeminal trophic syndrome: a legal medicine perspective in medical responsibility

    BACKGROUND: Trigeminal trophic syndrome is a rare complication of peripheral or central damage to the trigeminal nerve characterized by anesthesia, paresthesia and a secondary persistent facial ulceration. METHODS: We describe the case of a 40-year-old woman with previous history of Le Fort I osteotomy for a class III malocclusion who developed trigeminal trophic syndrome. Atypically, the cutaneous symptoms appeared bilaterally and 8 years after surgery. RESULTS: Differential diagnosis was based on clinical history, tissue biopsy and serologic evaluation. Atypical findings could be linked to the surgical burdens of Le Fort I osteotomy, a procedure characterized by a bilateral incision on the maxillofacial bones with a reasonable probability of causing a bilateral injury of the peripheral branches of the trigeminal nerve. CONCLUSION: Although the long delay between trigeminal trophic syndrome onset and surgery and the absence of adequate medical evidence cannot confirm a link with previous surgery in this case, the increasing number of maxillofacial surgery cases suggests that this complication may be more frequent in the next decades, and thus, involved specialists should be aware of this condition as a possible complication of maxillofacial surgery procedures

    The 43rd UID conference, held in Genova, takes up the theme of ‘Dialogues’ as practice and debate on many fundamental topics in our social life, especially in these complex and not yet resolved times. The city of Genova offers the opportunity to ponder on the value of comparison and on the possibilities for the community, naturally focused on the aspects that concern us, as professors, researchers, disseminators of knowledge, or on all the possibile meanings of the discipline of representation and its dialogue with ‘others’, which we have broadly catalogued in three macro areas: History, Semiotics, Science / Technology. Therefore, “dialogue” as a profitable exchange based on a common language, without which it is impossible to comprehend and understand one another; and the graphic sign that connotes the conference is the precise transcription of this concept: the title ‘translated’ into signs, derived from the visual alphabet designed for the visual identity of the UID since 2017.     Antiferromagnetism and the gap of a Mott insulator: Results from analytic continuation of the self-energy

    Direct analytic continuation of the self energy is used to determine the effect of antiferromagnetic ordering on the spectral function and optical conductivity of a Mott insulator. Comparison of several methods shows that the most robust estimation of the gap value is obtained by use of the real part of the continued self energy in the quasiparticle equation within the single-site dynamical mean field theory of the two dimensional square lattice Hubbard model, where for U slightly greater than the Mott critical value, antiferromagnetism increases the gap by about 80%.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures.     Time irreversibility in reversible shell models of turbulence

    Turbulent flows governed by the Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) generate an out-of-equilibrium time irreversible energy cascade from large to small scales. In the NSE, the energy transfer is due to the nonlinear terms that are formally symmetric under time reversal. As for the dissipative term: first it explicitly breaks time reversibility; second it produces a small-scale sink for the energy transfer that remains effective even in the limit of vanishing viscosity. As a result, it is not clear how to disentangle the time irreversibility originating from the non-equilibrium energy cascade from the explicit time-reversal symmetry breaking due to the viscous term. To this aim, in this paper we investigate the properties of the energy transfer in turbulent Shell models by using a reversible viscous mechanism, avoiding any explicit breaking of the ttt \rightarrow -t symmetry. We probe time-irreversibility by studying the statistics of Lagrangian power, which is found to be asymmetric under time reversal also in the time-reversible model. This suggests that the turbulent dynamics converges to a strange attractor where time-reversibility is spontaneously broken and whose properties are robust for what concerns purely inertial degrees of freedoms, as verified by the anomalous scaling behavior of the velocity structure functions.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure

    Chondrosarcoma is the second most common malignant tumor of the bone with an incidence of 1 in 200.000 per year. Axial skeleton is frequently involved showing poorer oncological outcomes than appendicular one: human pelvis is a site predilection. It is rarely associated to urinary obstruction but according to its localization, it can be frequently linked to compression of pelvic organs as bladder, prostate or bowel.
