The narrow and moving HeII lines in nova KT Eri
We present outburst and quiescence spectra of the classical nova KT Eri and
discuss the appearance of a sharp HeII 4686 Ang emission line, whose origin is
a matter of discussion for those novae that showed a similar component. We
suggest that the sharp HeII line, when it first appeared toward the end of the
outburst optically thick phase, comes from the wrist of the dumbbell structure
characterizing the ejecta as modeled by Ribeiro et al. (2013). When the ejecta
turned optically thin, the already sharp HeII line became two times narrower
and originated from the exposed central binary. During the optically thin
phase, the HeII line displayed a large change in radial velocity that had no
counterpart in the Balmer lines (both their narrow cores and the broad
pedestals). The large variability in radial velocity of the HeII line continued
well into quiescence, and it remains the strongest emission line observed over
the whole optical range.Comment: in press in A&

Arkansas Wheat Cultivar Performance Tests 2018-2019
Wheat cultivar performance tests are conducted each year in Ark- ansas by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture’s Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences. The tests provide information to companies developing cultivars and marketing seed within the state and aid the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in formulating cultivar recommendations for small-grain producers. The tests are conducted at the Northeast Research and Extension Center at Keiser, the Vegetable Substation near Kibler, the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station near Marianna, the Newport Extension Center near Newport, the Rohwer Research Station near Rohwer, the Pine Tree Research Station near Colt, and the Hope Research and Extension Center. In addition, entries are evaluated in a stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici) inoculated nursery in Fayetteville and a Fusarium head blight (FHB) inoculated nursery in Newport and Fayetteville. Contingent Claims Valuation of Corporate Liabilities: Theory and Empirical Tests
Although the Contingent Claims Analysis model has become the premier theory of how value is allocated among claimants on firms,its empirical validity remains an open question. In addition to being of academic interest, a test of the model would have significant practical implications. If it can be established that the model predicts actual market prices, then the model can be used to price new and untraded claims, to infer firm values from prices of traded claims like equity and to price covenants separately. In this paper evidence is presented on how well a model which makes the usual assumptions in the literature does in predicting market prices for claims in standard capital structures. The results suggest that the usual assumption list requires modification before it can serve as a basis for valuing corporate claims.
Hybrid Superconductor-Quantum Point Contact Devices using InSb Nanowires
Proposals for studying topological superconductivity and Majorana bound
states in nanowires proximity coupled to superconductors require that transport
in the nanowire is ballistic. Previous work on hybrid nanowire-superconductor
systems has shown evidence for Majorana bound states, but these experiments
were also marked by disorder, which disrupts ballistic transport. In this
letter, we demonstrate ballistic transport in InSb nanowires interfaced
directly with superconducting Al by observing quantized conductance at
zero-magnetic field. Additionally, we demonstrate that the nanowire is
proximity coupled to the superconducting contacts by observing Andreev
reflection. These results are important steps for robustly establishing
topological superconductivity in InSb nanowires
Mental Health Disorders and the Terrorist: A Research Note Probing Selection Effects and Disorder Prevalence
Recent research on lone-actor terrorism has found a high prevalence of mental health disorders amongst these offenders. This research note addresses two shortcomings in these existing studies. First, it investigates whether selection effects are present in the selection process of terrorist recruits. Second, it builds upon the argument that mental health problems and terrorist behaviour should not be treated as a yes/no dichotomy.
