Phonon assisted tunneling in Josephson junctions

The expression for additional subgap current in the presence of electron-phonon interaction is derived. We show that the phonon assisted tunneling leads to appearance of peaks on current-voltage characteristics at the Josephson frequencies corresponding to the Raman-active phonons. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy at low temperatures of the (110) surface of Te doped GaAs single crystals

We have performed voltage dependent imaging and spatially resolved spectroscopy on the (110) surface of Te doped GaAs single crystals with a low temperature scanning tunneling microscope (STM). A large fraction of the observed defects are identified as Te dopant atoms which can be observed down to the fifth subsurface layer. For negative sample voltages, the dopant atoms are surrounded by Friedel charge density oscillations. Spatially resolved spectroscopy above the dopant atoms and above defect free areas of the GaAs (110) surface reveals the presence of conductance peaks inside the semiconductor band gap. The appearance of the peaks can be linked to charges residing on states which are localized within the tunnel junction area. We show that these localized states can be present on the doped GaAs surface as well as at the STM tip apex.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in PR

Quality of life evaluation in acute leukemia patients receiving induction chemotherapy

Background: Over the past decades, special attention has been paid to study of quality of life (QoL) indicators in hematological patients receiving chemotherapy (CT). Nowadays QoL is conceptually viewed as an important complement to traditional objective evaluation measures. Aim. To assess QoL in patients with acute leukemia (AL) depending on the presence of concomitant ischemic heart disease (1HD) during the induction CT. Methods: Our study involved 83 patients with newly diagnosed AL, of which 19 were lymphoblastic, 64-myeloid leukemia, aged 16-72,43 (51.8%) men, 40 (48.2%) women, according to ECOG l-II. Patients received standard induction CT. According to concomitant IFID patients were divided into groups: I (n — 47) - AL without cardio­ logical diseases; II (n = 36) - AL with concomitant IHD. Patients were evaluated using SF-36 questionnaire to calculate physical and mental health components before treatment and after 2 induction courses of CT reaching remission

Вплив доксорубіцин-індукованого оксидативного стресу на резистентність слизової оболонки кишківника

The paper presents the findings of our own studies on the evaluation of the effect of anthracycline-induced oxidative stress on the level of N-acetylneuraminic acid and the state of the processes of free radical oxidation and antioxidant protection in the mucous membrane of rat small and large intestines depending on the presence of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. 30 mature outbred albino rats were involved into studies. The cumulative dose of doxorubicin was 15 mg/kg. In the mucous membrane of the small intestine of rats with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, administration of doxorubicin resulted in less pronounced oxidative damage and 1.2-fold decrease in N-acetylneuraminic acid concentration compared to rats without nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. It has been proved that administration of doxorubicin led to the development of doxorubicin-induced oxidative stress in the intestinal mucosa of rats with more severe lesions of the small intestine, regardless of the presence of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.У статті наведені результати власних досліджень по оцінці впливу антрациклін-індукованого оксидативного стресу на рівень N-ацетилнейрамінової кислоти та стан процесів вільно-радикального окиснення та антиоксидантного захисту у слизовій оболонці тонкої і товстої кишок щурів залежно від наявності неалкогольного стеатогепатиту. Дослідження проведені на 30 білих нелінійних статевозрілих щурах. Кумулятивна доза доксорубіцину склала 15 мг/кг. У слизовій тонкої кишки щурів із неалкогольним стеатогепатитом введення доксорубіцину приводило до менш вираженого оксидативного ураження та зменшення концентрації N-ацетилнейрамінової кислоти у 1,2 раза порівняно з щурами без неалкогольного стеатогепатиту. Доведено, що введення доксорубіцину призводило до розвитку доксорубіцин-індукованого оксидативного стресу в слизовій кишківника щурів з більш тяжким ураженням тонкої кишки незалежно від наявності неалкогольного стеатогепатиту
