Mark Brogan and Martin Masek teach and research in the School of Computer and Security Science at Edith Cowan University. Dr Brogan teaches and researches enterprise information management and digital recordkeeping. With Associate Professor Karen Murcia, Dr Masek coordinates research activity in ECU\u27s Research Centre for Transformational Games. 1 This paper describes outcomes from user acceptance testing of AE2 Commander 2 - a docugame released as alpha software in April 2011 by ECU\u27s Research Centre for Transformational Games. Docugames form a genre of serious games that employ digitised copy of historical sources as part of the game narrative. The design and development of AE2 Commander began in 2009, when the authors received an Ian MacLean Award 3 from the National Archives of Australia (NAA) to build an authentic role-play game based on the exploits of the World War I Australian submarine AE2. The design brief required the designers to develop a strategy for incorporating digitised copy of archival records held by the NAA and to measure the e-learning and engagement outcomes that were achieved with the docugame format. In an earlier Archives and Manuscripts article, the authors introduced the methods and technologies of computer game design and development used to produce AE2 Commander. 4 This paper reviews the learning outcomes that have been achieved with the game and the player reaction to the inclusion of authentic digital recreations of historical source records. The topic is significant within the context of e-learning, but also more generally, as many cultural heritage institutions seek new ways of engaging audiences through the leveraging of serious games
An Introduction to the Source Concept for Antennas
Antenna parameters particularly relevant to electrically small antenna design are reviewed in this paper. Source current definitions are accentuated leading to the introduction of the source concept which advantageously utilize only spatially bounded quantities. The framework of the source concept incorporates powerful techniques such as structural and modal decomposition, operatorās inversion and current optimization, thus opening new, challenging possibilities for antenna design, analysis and synthesis
ProÄiÅ”Äavanje Äelika optimiranjem konfiguracije meÄulonca
In continuous casting process, liquid steel flows through the tundish, which is supposed to operate as a continuous refining finisher. To provide a functionality of such a device, a pack of tundish metallurgy techniques must be applied, whose efficiency is conditioned especially with optimal symmetrical and dynamical melt flow. Flow optimizing can be achieved through the shaping of inside tundish configuration, using flow control devices such as turbulence inhibitors, impact pads, baffles, weirs, dams, etc. The theme of the present paper is the precise employment of a turbulence inhibitor, commercially known as TURBOSTOPTM, together with a pair of baffles & a flat impact pad in slab custer to improve steel cleanliness and a fluid flow phenomenon in a two strands tundish.
Tundish metallurgy development, which has been focused on steel cleanliness improvement in last few years, affected also tundish slag systems. Molten slags are the most suitable for both absorbing and refining functions of tundish cover slags, while a system of extremely low density does satisfy their isolating functions in the best way. Hence it is obvious, that it is not possible to assure the main functions using one sort of tundish covering slags. In addition, traditional acid slags, are being replaced with basic covering slags, or combination of both types. In this work, we have tried to investigate the operation of tundish covering slag under the condition of slab continuous casting. A genesis of covering slag from applied cover powders its refining functions have been investigated, as well as the changes of covering slag chemical composition during one tundish casting sequence.
