L'Arqueologia del paisatge de la Catalunya medieval

Aquest article presenta les característiques dels estudis d'arqueologia del paisatge a l'edat mitjana a Catalunya amb relació a allò que es fa a la resta d'Europa. Se'n mencionen els trets característics i també els principals elements del paisatge que poden ésser estudiats. Hom assenyala la importància de fer estudis sobre la història del paisatge per conèixer més bé la societat medieval i també per poder gestionar més bé el país en el futur valorant el paisatge com a testimoni de la nostra història i, per tant, com a part del patrimoni col·lectiu. A l'hora d'estudiar el passat es crida l'atenció sobre la importància de conèixer els canvis esdevinguts en les etapes de transició, especialment la «medieval», la islàmica, la carolíngia o la que s'inicià vers l'any 1000. Al final es descriuen diverses possibles línies de recerca, que són acompanyades per vuit exemples de casos concrets, cadascun dels quals acompanyat d'un mapa.This paper defines the main characteristics of studies on landscape archaeology in Medieval Catalonia, compared to those of the rest of Europe. Thepaper focuses on its distinguishing features as well as those main landscape traits worth analysing. It also emphasizes the importance of doing research on landscape history as a means not only to delve into medieval society but also manage the country better in the future, after due appreciation of landscape as a silent witness of our history and, therefore, as part of our collective heritage. When studying the past, researchers draw special attention to the importance of gaining knowledge from transitional periods, especially medieval, Islamic and Carolingian, even from around the year 1000. The paper concludes with possible lines of research for the future, through eight examples of specific cases, accompanied each of them with a map

Fer mapes per conèixer la Història: Aportacions de la cartografia a l'estudi de l'Alta Edat Mitjana

To make maps to know history: contributions from the cartography to the study of the early middle ages. The accomplishment of maps can allow us to know many aspects that documents written do not allow us to have knowledge. This paper focuses on the boundaries of the townships or the parishes, on the routes and ways, and on the place names or on the invocations of the churches, in order to get to know like it was the territory in the early medieval centuries. One reaches the conclusion that often the limits, the ways and the settlements were created at early middle ages. This study allows to raise the ruptures and the continuities that took place throughout these centuries in the settlement
