A Comparative Study of Three Indonesian Islands on The Performance in Mathematics
The level of performance among Indonesian students in Mathematics is still critical. This study aims at comparing provinces within each of three islands, and then all three Islands in general, the comparison focused on the performance in mathematics during 2014/2015 national examination. Islands involved in the current research are Java, Sumatera, and Kalimantan. For each province from every island, the researchers selected urban districts by using the formula of Krecie & Morgan (1970), with .05 degree of accuracy, and then systematic sampling to select schools. On Java Island, the researchers selected 669 out of 1065 schools, 508 out of 621 schools on Sumatera Island, and 203 out of 235 schools on Kalimantan Island. Gathering data involved documentation. The researchers analyzed the data by using NCSS 11 and JASP 0.8.3.1. The findings indicated a significant difference among provinces and even Islands on the performance in Mathematics, p<.01, and Sumatera is the most performing island in Mathematics
Exploring the accuracy of school-based English test items for grade XI students of senior high schools
This study is set out to (1) explore the accuracy of school-based English test items developed by English teachers and (2) compare the relationship between the content covered by teacher and the students’ success level. This research used the quantitative approach. The source of the data is all grade XI students’ answers to the English test for the second semester of 2016/2017 academic year, and their English teachers’ responses to the questionnaire. During this cross-sectional survey, 241 grade XI students and six English teachers were selected by using the total population sampling technique. To analyze the data, the IRT model was prioritized with BILOG MG 3.0, WINISTEPS 3.7. The findings of the study indicate that (1) the test is valid, (2) it is reliable, (3) majority of the items are moderately difficult, (4) more than a half of all items have power to discriminate the examinees, (5) some items show fully-effective distractors, and (6) the test gives much information at -.40 of theta which means that the test is difficult for the grade XI students. Moreover, there is a wide gap between the content covered and the level of success
Educational Partners’ Perception Towards Inclusive Education
This study aims at investigating the perceptions of educational partners towards managing and implementing inclusive education, ensuring whether special need students can be wholly admitted and facilitated, and probing on the integration and management of students with physical, moral, and mental problems. The strategy used is centered on a case study with qualitative approach. The researchers applied a semi-structured interview and analyzed the data using content analysis with descriptive-interpretation-pattern coding model. For choosing the participants, quota sampling technique was applied whereby four participants were chosen from every school to represent the sections. The population is made up of all students, teachers, staff, and parents from SMA Yogyakarta, SMA Wates, and SMK Imogiri. Based on the interviews, all the subjects confirmed that inclusive education in the respective schools is critical.
