Experimental Verification of the Number Relation at Room and Elevated Temperatures
The accuracy of the Neuber equation for predicting notch root stress-strain behavior at room temperature and at 650 C was experimentally investigated. Strains on notched specimens were measured with a non-contacting, interferometric technique and stresses were simulated with smooth specimens. Predictions of notch root stress-strain response were made from the Neuber Equation and smooth specimen behavior. Neuber predictions gave very accurate results at room temperature. However, the predicted interaction of creep and stress relaxation differed from experimentally measured behavior at 650 C
Improved elastomer for use with oxygen difluoride
Method improves resistance of CIS-1,4-poly(butadiene) elastomers to attack by oxygen difluoride at low temperatures by replacing silica reinforcement with less reactive substances. Improved elastomeric compound is utilized in bladders, diaphragms, valves, O-rings and seals
The 1973 dust storm on Mars: Maps from hourly photographs
The hourly progress of the 1973 major Martian storm was mapped using photographic images from the International Planetary Patrol. Two series of 20 daily maps show the semi-hourly positions of the storm brightenings in red light and blue light. The maps indicate that the 1973 storm had many similarities to the 1971 storm
Multiwavelength analysis of the young open cluster NGC 2362
We present a multiwavelength analysis of the young open cluster NGC 2362.
UBVRcIc CCD photometric observations, together with available data in the
Chandra data base, near infrared data from the Two Micron All Sky Survey
(2MASS), and recently published Halpha spectroscopy were used to get
information about the evolutionary stage of the cluster and the main physical
properties of its stellar content. Cluster membership is estimated for every
individual star by means of ZAMS and isochrone fitting. The cluster is
confirmed to host a richly populated pre-main sequence (PMS), and to contain a
large amount of X-ray emitting stars, which reach from the PMS members of GK
spectral type, up to the most luminous OB type main sequence (MS) members. The
PMS cluster members show no significant age spread, and the comparison to both
PMS and post-MS isochrones suggests a younger age for the more massive MS than
for lower mass PMS members. The analysis allows to asses the validity of
currently used pre-main sequence evolutionary models, and supports the
suggestion of a well defined positive correlation of the X-ray emission from
PMS stars with their bolometric luminosity. Clear differences are found on the
other hand, between the X-ray activity properties of MS and PMS cluster
members, both in the relation between X-ray luminosity and bolometric
luminosity, and in spectral properties as well.Comment: 1 gzipped file: 1 tex file with 9 pages text. 5 ps files with

Fully ab initio atomization energy of benzene via W2 theory
The total atomization energy at absolute zero, (TAE) of benzene,
CH, was computed fully {\em ab initio} by means of W2h theory as 1306.6
kcal/mol, to be compared with the experimentally derived value 1305.7+/-0.7
kcal/mol. The computed result includes contributions from inner-shell
correlation (7.1 kcal/mol), scalar relativistic effects (-1.0 kcal/mol), atomic
spin-orbit splitting (-0.5 kcal/mol), and the anharmonic zero-point vibrational
energy (62.1 kcal/mol). The largest-scale calculations involved are
CCSD/cc-pV5Z and CCSD(T)/cc-pVQZ; basis set extrapolations account for 6.3
kcal/mol of the final result. Performance of more approximate methods has been
analyzed. Our results suggest that, even for systems the size of benzene,
chemically accurate molecular atomization energies can be obtained from fully
first-principles calculations, without resorting to corrections or parameters
derived from experiment.Comment: J. Chem. Phys., accepted. RevTeX, 12 page
Ceramic wiring board increases packaging density of electronic modules
Ceramic multilayer wiring board interconnects large scale integration /LSI/ modules which dissipate nearly 2W/cc. Extremely high packaging density is possible by application of alumina cover hermetically sealed to board. Signal interconnections are completely dependent on transfer heat between layers
