Legal Planning of Petroleum Production: Two Years of Proration
PRORATION of production of the major mid-continental oil pools in the United States has now been in general operation for well over two years. By proration the oil-producing states, acting through administrative commissions, have set production quotas for each pool as a whole and allocated these quotas among the variously owned wells within the pools. During the early part of this period, the daily output of crude was slashed from some 2,500,000 to approximately2,100,000 barrels -the overhanging weight of vast immediate potential production was largely lifted from the market -the statistical position of the industry was further improved by the withdrawal of some 70,000,000 barrels of stocks from storage -and the price of the product soared more than 500% from a dead low of a few cents to slightly over one dollar per barrel
Approaches to Development of Water Quality Criteria and Standards for Lakes
Proceedings of the 1993 Georgia Water Resources Conference, April 20-21, 1993, Athens, Georgia.Eutrophication and toxics contamination are serious problems in many lakes in the United States. In a 1989 EPA publication entitled, "Report to Congress: Water Quality of the Nation's Lakes," 25 percent of the 12,413,
837 assessed lake acres were found to be impaired or partially impaired.
Water quality standards are the primary regulatory tool for water quality protection under the Clean Water Act. Development of lake water quality standards has lagged
far behind the development of standards for streams. Enforcement actions to protect water quality in lakes have been few. Despite these problems, numerical lake water
standards are gaining a slow acceptance. This slow acceptance is due to a number of technical and policy problems that are either perceived or real. Some of these
problems are discussed below.Sponsored and Organized by: U.S. Geological Survey, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, The University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of TechnologyThis book was published by the Institute of Natural Resources, The University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia 30602 with partial funding provided by the U.S. Department of Interior, Geological Survey, through the Georgia Water Research Institute as authorized by the Water Resources Research Act of 1984 (P.L. 98-242).

Reconceptualising Motivation in Adoption and Acceptance Research: Back to Basics
In the adoption and acceptance of technology, the technology acceptance model (TAM) has been a dominant influence. TAM, however, simplifies and trivialises the concept of motivation, (a concept not well developed and used in the IS field) by failing to recognise the fundamental needs influencing behaviour. This, in turn, restricts its use to design and use interventions to enhance adoption and use within an ICT-enabled organisational change project. Given this, this paper will re-conceptualise the concept of motivation by exploring the inner or intrinsic motivation influencing behaviour and will indicate how this motivation underlies the TAM variables. Further, using the concept of participative management we will explore how various organisational interventions might be designed to enhance user motivation to adopt and use a new system. Finally, these interventions are applied to an ongoing action research study to improve the success of implementing a document management system within a non-profit organisation
